thanks,
I've got a ?160 litre storage box in the loft (translucent white/clear plastic, I could fit 3+ of his tank in it) which I was looking at last night. It has a cover so we'll transfer him carefully to that tonight. He's still with us.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
I think it's staggering you can still win a living creature at a fair."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I had two goldfish once, Flash and Gordon. My mum thought their bowl looked a bit 'grubby' so gave it a good scrub out with Domestos. Put the fish back in, a few hours later they were dead. Completely bleached too."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Brilliant news.Just make sure it is strong enough to hold water!
Do keep us posted on how he does, you are lovely to care so much,a lot of people when faced with that situation would go and buy the cheapest bowl there was and hope it is not too much of an inconvenience.
One day the world will treat living creatures with the kindness and respect that they deserve.I fear it's a long way off yet though.............0 -

Poor fish. They wouldn't have lasted long in a bowl though, and it would have been a drawn out miserable death from suffocation or ammonia poisoning..0 -
I think you're being lovely to try and help the little fishie
too many people treat fish as decorations rather than pets.
I have a massive tank in our living room which is home to one solitary and grumpy newtMe and my ex kinda "rescued" her from the shop - nobody wanted her as she's a ribbed newt that accidentally got in with a shipment of fire-bellied newts. I think she's mega-cute though
My mum used to say "eee that tank's far too big for one thing" but if anything I worry it's too small! She has good filtration, plastics plants to climb on, a hidey-hole, a log to climb on, water change of about a third of the tank once a week, and gets fed on bloodworm - I also put peas in her plants and she likes to munch on those too
Sorry, that was on a tangent - but I love that lil newt and will never understand how creatures in water aren't usually classed as pets

People say the same thing when they see the cages for my parrots. One is actually slightly too small, but since he is out most of the day it doesn't matter so much, and when in it he just goes to sleep anyway. The other one is roughly 70 x 50 x 100 cm ish (longer is better than taller, but there wasn't much choice) and again, that's about minimum recommended size for a little conure (about 30cm in length, almost half of that being a tail). Once all the perches and toys are in there, you begin to see that it isn't so big after all. When it was empty people would ask if we were getting a macaw or cockatoo or something, because the cage was "so big". A bird like those wouldn't be able to even open it's wings in a cage that size! It's always sad to see birds in cages far too small for them
Mini rant over! OP, you're doing a great thing by trying to help out the fish-too many people wouldn't bother or would get rid of it since it's just a fish, thank you for trying to help something too many would consider disposable0 -
There is at l east one male newt living in a freshwater pond somwhere close in East Yorkshire. On Easter Sunday there was someone with a net fishing for Daphnia- with permission from the Yorkshire Wildlife trust. He kept on mistakenly fishing him out and was very keen to show all and sundry (including me) his (the newt's!) supersized t*esticles on the outside of his body.
Maybe your newt is looking for love ?......."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
