PC scheduling

Am I correct that it should be relatively easy to make a PC sleep between particular times each day and wake up and start up a program?
I've never used it before but am looking at Task scheduler as a possible way of doing this. How would I tell TS how to get the program to start. What type of file would I be looking for and whereabouts would it be stored?
Thank you.

That's what Task Scheduler is for, but it's not for the faint-hearted. For years, I've had my pc set to wake up at 5a.m. to download files. To do this I use a little utility called WakeupOnStandby, which has never failed me. It's really just a simpler way of configuring the Windows scheduler. It's available here and before you use it the video tutorials are well worth a look.0

Thank you both for replying. I'll look into those.
I think the biggest failure in my understanding will be when I have to to tell the machine to start up a particular program automatically. I have located the folder within program files but in the folder there is a whole string of file names and types. I was expecting to need an exe file but maybe not. How do I find out what I need?0 -

And..... Are you saying you use this instead of Task scheduler as it's simpler or within TS?0 -
Instead of. It's actually doing stuff within TS, but you don't need to know that.0

What program are you wanting to start up with Task Scheduler? One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Just remember the computer can't go into deep sleep, or it isn't running the scheduler, so light sleep/standby might be the best you can get, power savings not a great as you may hope0

Sorry, I didn't see the later messages. Well WOSB worked beautifully this morning. I did eventually find an exe file amongst all the files that had no meaning to me and that seemed to work.
However, putting the computer to sleep is now an issue. I set it to sleep after five minutes of inactivity ( using power options) and it didn't so I had to manually make it sleep to test the WOSB.
How can I make the pc close the program and sleep at a particular time? Everything I have read so far just has commands for shutdown.
Thank you so much for your help. I have learnt so much since bookmarking this area of the forum.0 -
Is this any good?
A brief read says it will hibernate ( so save more power?) and wake up so tackle both ends of my issue?
