Where I grew up the woods were full of it and we called it Stinky Weed. There's no way I'd ever want to plant that stuff in the garden, you can smell it for MILES and it clings !!

If you control it it's fine. I have a lovely little patch of it by my pond and as it doesn't seem to smell unless it's touched which it isn't (until I pick it for my dinner). Anyway. I love the smell of garlic. icon7.gif

    Hi all :)
I got some wild garlic with the veg box today, and I was wondering if I can cook it with some chilli and spring greens with soy sauce to serve with the fish we are having (HFW foil baked fish with fennel ginger and chilli) I haven't cooked with it, but also have loads growing in the garden now too, so want to make as much use of it as possible :D
Can I use it in place of garlic or is the taste too subtle? The fish recipe also has garlic in it, so I could saute the wild garlic with the fennel before baking it in the foil with the fish.... Oh decisions decisions :rotfl:

It's a very mild flavour so I wouldn't use it in place of normal garlic but it is lovely stirfried with spring greens or in a herb omelette.:)

Thank you, I think I will stir fry the spring greens with some, and a little chilli and soy sauce and just have it on the side. YUM YUM :D

Sorry, had to jump in - my parents live just up the road from there and I know exactly what you mean - it looks pretty with all the white flowers, but stinks to high heaven! :D

I've only tried wild garlic once, in a frittata with feta cheese, and it was lovely but... umm... upset me slightly, if you know what I mean. ;) I've since learnt that it can have that effect on some people the first time you eat it - apparently you get used to it after a couple of tries, though (I'm hoping to get some more this year to see if this is true - I hope so as it's really tasty stuff :)).
Back after a very long break!

It makes fabulous pesto :D Replace basil with wild garlic, and omit the garlic and you're pretty much there. Adjust proportions of parmesan and pine nuts to taste... it keeps for ages (if it doesn't get eaten)
