Going back to your original post this sounds like the EGR valve, can normaly be fixed by giving the car a good thrashing or removing it and cleaning it, or even take it to a vaux dealer and ask them to upgrade the firmware apparently they have a work around in the firm ware that makes its redundantIf it doesnt pay rent sell it.
