ADSL faceplates

I've been reading on here from a lot of people that they are better than using microfilters.
I'm considering getting one, but I was just wondering what the implications are of fitting one myself - i.e. would I get in trouble with BT by installing it myself, as I always thought those boxes were BT's property and you (the householder) weren't allowed to do anything to them?
Thanks.

The back part of the socket with the test socket in is BT's property.
The removable front part is yours and you can replace it with an ADSL faceplate.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Ahh cool, I didn't know that!
Thank you Owain.

Do you have any extensions? If not then no point otherwise they beat filters hands down for tidyness.
For best results you need to connect your router at the master sockets. Obviously normal extensions can't be used for the router as the ADSL is filtered out but most will allow you to connect one extension unfiltered. If that is the case then check that the one you will buy allows that.0 -
A way to avoid having to rewire your existing faceplate is to use the VDSL interstitial plate. It what BT fit when you upgrade to FTTC, but is backwards compatible with ADSL.
