I suspect the poster meant they'd had 'a' mortgage with Halifax for 30+ years...much the same as I've had 'a' mortgage with YBS for a similar period, ie we've both had more than one property in that time.
    More than likely.

What we don't get from the OP is confirmation that the mortgage is well conducted. Or on an owner-occupied property. Or there are no other gremlins or excessive debts.

I was turned down by the Halifax 3 times for the 0% card last time a couple of months back.

Received last week a guarenteed acceptance 0% 12 months offer from them. This is the 3rd 0% unsolicited existing user offer in 2 months, Barclays (18 months), M&S (12 months) and Halifax (12 months) last 2 in the last week.

So being turned down probably means nothing much.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

That's the case. Also have had a wide variety of credit cards over the years without any payment problems.

Have you had cards in the last six years?

I'd check your credit reports with all three agencies (Experian, Equifax and Callcredit/Noddle), make sure everything is up to date and there are no inaccuracies.

Sometimes it could be something as simple as they have linked you financially to someone with a bad credit history, and this in turn makes them consider you a higher risk.

You need to go through your reports with a fine toothed comb. If you can't find anything that's not correct, then perhaps they just don't want to lend to you and you could try applying with somebody else. Or apply for a card aimed at people with not-so-good histories.

I absolutely agree. I was thinking of applying for this card but I'm no longer sure. I also have a very good record (never previously refused a card) so would be a bit shocked if this happened.

Whats rude about telling the OP they've failed the lenders credit scoring and its best to move on.

    Exactly not rude whatsoever

Maybe not rude but pretty bad advice. Maybe there's a reason for the rejection other than simply failing the credit check, such as incorrect information on credit files.

Incorrect information on credit files = failed credit scoring.

I understand that, but there is something that can be done about incorrect information on someone's credit file and 'best to move on' doesn't take that into account.
