Extrodinary circumstances

Options
Hi There
I wrote to Aer Lingus to claim compensation for a flight to Southend scheduled to take off from Dublin at 7.15 but due to technical problems with the plane actually took off at 8.10. Then mid flight one of the engines cut out and the flight was diverted to Birmingham for an emergency landing. Waited at Birmingham for some hours and was then bused to Southend and arrived at 2.30 A M and had to pay £70 for a taxi home as obviously there was no public transport running. The reply I received was no compensation as disruption was due to extraordinary circumstances. I am unhappy with this reply but do not know if I have a case to take it any further. I would appreciate any advice.
