Great location, great flat, all that good stuff.

ive been here for a few years now no probs but my mother 1st drew it to my attention that I LIVE RIGHT ABOVE THE ELECTRICITY TERMINAL FOR THE WHOLE APARTMENT COMPLEX.

I can also hear a dull humming all the time if i listen for it. It's literally below my feet.

This makes me a little uneasy.

Its a block of flats of around a 100 or two and my front room which i spend the majority of my waking hours is slap bang on top of the 'power grid' as the concierge calls it for the whole building. I asked her about it this morning and she says 'oh im not allowed in there'. I feel like i could be living on top of a ticking time bomb.

There is a yellow sign outside the doors of it saying 'danger of death' which doesnt put my mind at ease at all :(.

Is there cause to be concerned about this?

Im quite a hypochondriac and this has given me another thing to spend my days worrying about.

I have wood floors which dampens electric charges doesnt it :(

If there was a problem down there could it likely 'blow me up'?

Its put a dampener on an otherwise pretty much perfect place.

Likewise tho since its great otehrwise it would seem stupid to move for that only but at the same time imagine if i died from it, what cruel fate.

I've read stories in the past about houses that are built underneath an electric pylon, the power from them is similar to the mobile phone things ........... they make you go do-lally. I don't know if the same happens when the power is under your feet.

My advice to you is don't worry about. Possible issues with EMF with pylons is tenuous to say the least and the EMF from electricity is principally down to the voltage. The Electro Magnetic Field from a switchroom in an apartment block will be tiny in comparison to an electricity pylon - even if there is a transformer in there - which is the most likely source of the humming.

The humming is the transformer, they hum while generating power. Normal, I find it quite soothing I must say.
Danger of death only applies to going in there and fiddling with cables while you are uninsulated, definitely not to simply living above or near it. Same as any transformer / generating station / pylon.

I lived at a house with one at the end of my (very short 4-5m) garden for 5 years and it didn't affect my health. Or blow up at any point!

Try having the radio on low to drown out the hum if it annoys you. You'll not notice it after a while

Could you kindly link to any sort of research / scientific paper than confirms this?

    Thanks for info so far.

So i walked outside just now to get some more info on it and its apparently called an 'electricity sub station' and has 6600 volts.

Yes i wasnt worried about that emissions stuff just if some malfunction happened and it might electrocute my whole flat with me in it!

Could be worse, might be built on an old Indian burial ground...............................they're here!

On a practical note you could try making a nice big coil of wire and grab yourself some free electricity.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Your flat should not be conducting electricity enough to electrocute you, you don't live in a metal box! I suppose a flood might create a risk tho, maybe you should purchase some rubber wellies.

So the 6.6Kv substation is outside the property..I got the impression from your OP that it was inside the building !..maybe we need a pic? Either way its there to stay..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
