Speed Camera Detector Help Please

I've had my Road Angel for about 5yrs, it has an extra black round detector thing that sticks to my windscreen that is supposed to pick up the mobile traps, mine never has, all my points have been from a mobile, but it picks up all the Gatso's. If there was a detector on the market that picks the mobiles up I would definately buy it. I drive about 400 miles a week and just about manage to lose 3 points offf my licence before I get 3 more, so manage to keep to 9 points.
Wayne\Giraffe does the Talex lite pick up the mobile lasers?.....Science is the antidote to the poison of enthusiasm and superstition.......0 -

Ohreally. I use a Beltronics detector in conjunction with a satnav unit....the Bel is by far the most useful in so much as the satnav won't tell me if the gatso is switched on (only tell of my proximity to the camera), makes all the difference if you need to crack on and the raod is "busy" with gatsos - you now become aware that 60-80% are switched off.
Mobile enforcement units are no longer the threat thay are to motorists without protection.I've had a radar detector for 6 years and never had a ticket yet...i never do a journey without it (local trips excluded).Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
GPS wins every time.
Don't bother with jammers, they give a false sense of security, and are you willing to risk a trip to court under charges of perverting the course of justice?
Detectors may well be of some use BUT be sure you know exactly what the devices are actually detecting and what that actually means in terms of your driving style.
Forward facing systems such as Gatso's are "detected" only by the backscatter generated from the reflections off other vehicles passing the camera in front of you. If there is little traffic the timescale of the "detection" warning may be too late!
Laser "detection" systems work either in the same manner hunting for the reflections from other vehicles being hit,"painted", or by the beam actually "painting" your car. The first is at best hit and miss (sorry for the pun) the second is more often than not too late!
Despite the requirement for cameras to be obvious and signposted many rear facing, such as Truvelo units, are well "hidden" and you only have clear line of sight to the camera when it does of you! For most detectors, too late!!
Catch the common theme?
Choose a gps system that warns of the positions of fixed cameras and registered mobile sites along with redlight cameras and the average speed SPECS systems and you cant go too wrong. So what if the camera wasn't actually active? It might have been and being sensible may just have saved a couple of quid and three points!
I run the original full feature Talex and the PocketGPS database on TomTom - better to be safe than walking!Fiscally responsible or just a tight git? :

Sorry to have to tell you ,but youll be wasting your money ,, :j
Next week in Cumbria..they are trialing a new system that effectively can see when and where drivers slowdown in speedcamera areas,, The idea being that most drivers slowdown ,beforehand, and then speed up again once they are past the cameras,, this system will spot the culprits...and will issue penalty points, and fines........
About time..............:T0 -

This is a thread in the motoring section about speed camera detection. It is not helpful for the OP to be subjected to abuse about speeding by the misguided PC anti-speed and anti driving lobby. Please post on letsgeteveryonedrivingat20mph.com or ilovespeedhumps.com or whereever else you frequent instead.0
