ive had stollen in january that had a sell by date of feb/march for free they were handing em out at the tills when u paid

Lidl is very much under-rated as a supermarket! We're big fans!

Obviously it looks like some managers have took it upon themselves to give it away instead of throwing it (which seems sensible to me).
Where I work it all gets thrown in a box,deleted from stock,and the box is capped and shrink wrapped.So even the staff dont a get a look-in.
This to me is absolute madness !!! But its the way it is in most stores apparently

Maybe it would make more sense to give it to a local Salvation Army for there soup kitchen?

Last weekend we were given boxes of eggs for free in the Darlington branch. They had that days sell by date on them but the use by one isn't for another week, planning to have omlette for tea tonight!

We've also had free bread in the past, I think it's a great idea and saves them paying for someone to take the stuff away and dump it.

The lidls near me has this on a monday where you can take some pancakes or a loaf of bread that sits on the side, think the object is for the customer to take 1 item rather than be greedy and take more.

I used to work for a fruit and veg wholeseller and left over, out of date stock was thrown in a skip because they didn't want to undermine the market.

We used to dig it back out and take it home :beer:

I'm sure they knew but turned a blind eye.

I will be near a Lidls next Monday evening , i will go and check, hopefully ours will be giving stuff away too!!!

Lidls in Warrington were giving loads of fruit and veg away, it was along the window after you had been through the tills. I think its a fantastic example to set to others.
