Hi

I was just wondering if there is any way i can block mobile calls being made from my house phone.

Does anyone know which phone suppliers can do this. Im currently with Talk Talk and they say they do not have this service. Half my bill is used on mobiles (4 teenagers)

Thanks

You can do it with the Orchid.

Or you can pay BT for the service, BUT it also blocks national calls. (bit of a pain in the A)
The way I got around it was to use a system like 1899 and prefix the call on the handset to the numbers we use (mother in law) so it went out on that leaving the Mobile/National block active.

You can also get devices to fit over the phone socket, I don't know name off hand but its on this site somewhere, if I find it I will post it.

Rather than barring some types of calls, I think you'd be better turning that on its head - allowing some calls.

Consider getting a Phone Guard for each live socket you have - they'll bar all calls except the ones you specifically allow.

You'd still have the ability (a turn of a key) to make whatever calls you wanted
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I can't see a phone guard being much use with teenagers about, they'd just take it out when they want to make calls.

I remember when i was 12 and wanted to go on the internet, my mum would take the phone extensions cable out with her so I used take my computer down and put it up in the living room near a phone socket so I could get on. I soon stopped when I realised that the phone bill for those three months was in excess of 400 pound.

Er, they thought of that - it's locked over the wall socket and can only be removed with the key (hiding the keys helps).

Does anyone know, Heinz maybe, if the Commtel phone guards are still being manufactured? The reason I ask is that I bought a couple in January 2009 for about 7 pounds each. I decided last week to buy another but everyone was showing 'unavailable'. I've checked again this week and can now find supplies but.... the asking price is now a staggering 20-24 pounds. What's going on?
  • I dont know if they still manufacture them but i managed to get hold of 70 of them the other day from an auction i paid £4 each for them....
