Query about transit with Qatar and stopover With Emirates

Hi,

Thinking of going MAN-KUL in Aug 2013. 2 possibilities are flying with Qatar or Emirates after searching for lowest fares.

Qatar Flight details are:
Man- Doha (1st leg)
Doha- Kul (2nd leg)

(1) Is Transit Time: 01:25 hrs adequate ie. are the airport terminals/gates near each other for the change of planes for the above Qatar flights?

(2) For the Emirates flight stopover, it said:
Emirates - 13 hr 30 min - Eligible for Dubai Connect.
Has anyone used this and if so, is it time enough to do a half day sightseeing tour of Dubai?

Thanks.

Qatar airways has a reputation for missed connections at Doha, so perhaps pick a longer connection time with other flights.

Yep, my parents had a very near mis in Doha last October due to short connection times.

Dubai, in August, I wouldn't bother with sightseeing, it's far too hot to be rushing around then getting back on a flight, I would get them to book a day room at a nearby hotel, enjoy some R&R and at most get an air conditoned taxi to an airconditioned mall for a few hours.

Btw Malaysia Airlines flights are on A380 double decker aircraft from LHR-KUL

  • I flew with Qatar a few weeks ago to Sri Lanka via Doha. The connecting time allowed was 1 hour and we arrived 20mts late.
The connecting flight was held fo us and the plane took off on time. They do seem to be well organised as a hub.

Thanks for your replies. Will aim for a slightly longer transit time if I go with Qatar. Still thinking whether to go with Emirates or not as they are a fair bit more expensive. We have been on the A380 with SIA 3 years ago so do appreciate the difference.

MAS is too expensive for the dates we can travel ie. August. We hardly ever travel in Aug as we know that is the most expensive month to travel. Unfortunately, due to circumstances we can only go between late July and August.

I don't think you'll qualify for the Dubai Connect service, despite what the website said. There have been a lot of quirks on the website recently.

To qualify, you must be booked on the next onward flight and still have the lengthy delay. In your case, I think all flights from MAN have a shorter connection. EK18 can connect to EK346, EK20 to EK342 and EK22 to EK344.

It appears that you have opted for the 13hr 30min delay, probably in return for a cheaper price which would mean you're not eligible for the hotel etc. More details here:

Fifeken - I was looking at the following for Emirates:

    Man-Kul: 4 Aug 2013
    Kul-Man: 20 Aug 2013

It is the Kul-Man that shows the Dubai connect option on the website.
    Is that not eligible?
