  • Sorry, the answer is a definite yes. Theoretically it is still yes if you only ever did one £5 job. If you actually earn £100 a week from mystery shopping (although I don't think this is actually what you meant????) you will have to pay NI as well, as the small earnings threshold is just over £4000 a year.......
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Forgive me off topic: what do the stars mean next to usernames? How does one earn one?

They have something to do with your post count I think - not sure about the levels though!

Couple of points. Full time students don't pay tax.
If you are anyone else YES you have to register with IR as self employed. Even if you have low earnings the IR still need ot know about it and it will only catch up with you later if you do not get 'official' now;)
People who do not MS properly are a discredit to us all and do not help anyone, the MS company OR the business being MS'ed. I understand your frustrations Kitchen Buff. Once I was about 5 minutes early for a MS and I did not get paid even though I did a full detailled, accurate report, because I did not 'stick to the schedule'. I think most companies are very particular about this, sorry you have had bad experiences.

They do - this is a huge myth that gets us accountants so much because people believe it.

If you earn enough, no matter who you are, you'll pay tax on your income. If students didn't have to pay tax then millionaires would all take up a course at uni!

Ok thanks for clearing that up, spose I never earnt enough when I was a student LOL. No tax on bank accounts though, in my experience. No one is going to be a millionaire from MS'ing!

Yeah that's why people think students don't pay tax - as no-one really ever earns enough nobody pays it.

The hotel I worked at for a bit last year was a nightmare on payday with all the students announcing they'd be claiming back the tax they'd paid - noone believes you when you tell them otherwise either!

On another note - is anyone else getting really annoyed with grassroots? They don't email you when there are any jobs but send you a million emails when there aren't!

I earn about £80 a week from my job, so with this on top I'll be earning under £100 still and being out of work 2months this year due to an operation and not entitled to sick pay I'll have earnt under £4000.

I guess I'll do this tax thingy then!

P.S. Apologies for some spelling mistakes, my keyboard is dying!
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

And I thought it was just me. :rotfl:I must have received about 8 emails yesterday and only saw one available job once.

I've been lucky enough to be at the computer in the afternoons this week and just keep refreshing the Grass roots page. Loads of jobs suddenly appear and they are snapped up quickly, the most I've been able to get is 2 out of a possible 30-odd. then, 10 minutes later, I get the email to say there are jobs available!

So, what you need to do, is log onto the site 10 minutes BEFORE you receive the email!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Has anyone managed to access the Gapbuster website in last few days?
I am constaqntly getting page cannot be displayed

They owe me a payment for September but I have not managed to get on the site and have not received any emails from them either, I usually get one every day wont even access the site from links in old emails.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
