    Hi Ethel,

Hope you had a good birthday.

I know what you mean about not telling anyone - in a way, I want to keep it to myself cos I'm quite a private person and I don't want everyone knowing my business. On the other hand though, I wouldn't keep it to myself if I had flu or if I'd broken my leg.

Depression is a real illness so perhaps if we don't keep quiet about it, it will help to remove the stigma and educate others about depression and the experience of living with it.

    love Allie xx

yep, I can totally relate to that, and you're absolutely right, at least if we shared the fact of our illness, people don't think you're just a lazy, unsociable so n so, lol

my birthday was nice, it's just that I don't like the fuss and being centre of attention so I spose i ruin it for myself in some ways, if that makes sense? :rotfl:

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Feeling really down lately - have gained weight from comfort eating so that's making me feel worse. Have started the diet again, just to get the weight off I've gained. I feel so huge :( I topped 140lbs on the scale this morning (10 stone) and I have the strongest urge to cut. But I havent, I know its a bad thing. I have two battles going on inside my head.
(HUGS) to anyone who wants/needs one.

Hi Sf, I understand about comfort eating it is the main reason i have been overweight most of my life, nothing to do with being greedy as most slim people seem to think. We use food i in the same way other use drink or drugs to make us feel good.Unfortuanetly weight gain is the price we pay.Have put on some weight myself don't know how much as i stopped weighing myself a couple of years back your weight can fluctuate for other reasons such as the time of the month and fluid retention.I don't know how tall you are but 10 stone is not "huge" just heavier than you would like to be.Good look with the diet ,try and find other ways to comfort yourself, buy a new top, lipstick, have a long soak with some smellies anything which makes you feel good.As to the cutting well done for resisting the urge, you know it is because you feel down about the weight gain but if you cut you will have another thing to be down about.

Thanks geminilady, i'm only 5"1 so it doesn't look good. but thanks for understanding :) all my friends, at uni and at home, are thin so it gets a bit depressing after a while. I'm proud of myself for not cutting too. x

    Hi everyone

Just a quickie. Because a few people have issues telling people that they are close to them that they are ill. And I fully understand.

My deep depression set in a few months ago and NO-ONE knew. I refused to tell anyone. I had depression (about 10 years ago) before and did the same. This time, with lots of encouragement from this thread, I managed to tell the important people in my life. The worst one was telling my Mum. But do you know what? It was the best thing I could have done. My mum lives in another part of the UK and I don't see her very often unfortunately. She has been excellent along with others in my life. For me, it took a huge weight off my shoulders. People have been fantastic and understanding which has helped me a great deal. I didn't want sympathy I just wanted support and an understanding of why I am the way I am.

Please, if you are ill (and depression is a serious illness) share it with others. Believe me, I know it's easier said than done sometimes but please think about it.
