Offering to sell by post/paypal and buyer wants collection

Hi
As an Ebay novice I'd appreciate any help on this hopefully simple question.
I'm selling an item on Ebay with no option for collection, posting only, and payment by Paypal.
I've received an email selling asking whether the item can be collected in person.
I have heard that you should not offer PayPal to persons collecting in person (as they could claim they have not received your goods and get a refund via PayPal).
Are the any other payment options open to the buyer and myself if the buyer wanted to collect in person?
I would stress that they have not made me an offer outside of ebay- I understand they will bid on the auction like everyone else.
The item may only fetch say £20.
Thanks

They pay cash when they collect.
It's like ebay/paypal have brainwashed people into forgetting about cash..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

An extremnely rare possibility. Maybe if you want to live your life treading on egg-shells. You have their address if they bought an item, aren't they the ones frightened of trying it on - they should be.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. The main trouble is for things that are too big to post and someone wants to pay by Paypal.
You have to allow payment by Paypal, but you don't have to allow collection in person.
So you can give the buyer the options:
1. Pay by Paypal (inc. shipping) and you will post it.
2. Pay by cash on collection (without shipping costs) and they can pick it up in person.0 -
But if they are collecting in person there is nothing to say that the address given is the address where they actually live.ballisticbrian wrote: »An extremnely rare possibility. Plenty of people have been scammed like this, so I don't know that it is extremely rare.
Though saying that, we have sold stuff for collection only in the past with no problems.0 -

Sorry to disagree, but plenty of people *talk* about it on here as if it goes on all the time, but I don't know anyone it's ever happened to what-so-ever.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Scamming in this way is rife on some items.0 -

This is not as uncommon as it should be - you hear about it quite often with certain items (laptops, mobile phones, and other desirables). Buyers who set out to scam do not put their real address and details on ebay. It is unlikely that anyone will bother doing this for a second hand skirt or whatever, and is probably just wanting to save postage because they live nearby, but any high end goods should be sold cash on collection only.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Tell them it's paypal for your sale unless they wish to collect in person and they can pay cash and have a discount.
If they pay by paypal, send it.
If they want to collect ask them for cash.
But, you cannot stipulate cash only. The buyer has a right to pay by paypal, but you have a right to send it, if you have included postage costs in your listing.0 -
If I want to give the buyer the option to pay by cash on collection:
- do I have to change my advert to include an option for this? Or is this an option a buyer will have if they win the auction?
- is there not a risk of agreeing cash on collection and then they don't turn up?0 -

I would leave the listing as it is, I don't have auctions so don't know if you can even add this later or not anyhow. But if you listed is as postage only, then that is all they see. But if you have been messaging them, they will know the option of cash on collection is available to them.
If they win, then make arrangements with them via message/email. Then you can just mark the item as paid when they've been and taken it away.0
