    Read more carefully.

The man clearly meant that it was only held up by the cable after the damage, how would he know what it was like before the damage, unless he had been there previously.
I can only go by what is written not what he meant.

Is not the backboard the responsibility of the occupier or owner? If it's so weakly attached that it comes away with minimal contact, thne how can the meter co. be liable?

Meter/Backboard is the DNO's responsibility, which is who attended and repaired it in this case. As for liability, there will be no cost to the customer so why worry

It's called using common sense. In the context of the thread it makes perfect sense.

Sorry, just to confirm for my mindset.

You are talking about a Meter reader who has come to read the meter and not someone exchanging or working on the Meter?

Really good to see that it has been fixed.
  • Hi,

Sorry, just to clarify a few points for those who asked.

The original person to visit the house (who I strongly suspect disturbed something and attempted to cover his tracks) came to read the electric meter.

Following sound advice from forum members above I called SP Energy Networks who sent a repair man around to refit the back board to the wall ( he had to remove the meter, main fuse etc from the board first ).

Before the repair was made the whole assembly was held up only by the conduit containing the main incoming cable. I assume that's why he made the comment to me about the safety concern.

He (the repairman) confirmed that there would be no charge to me and it was deemed as an emergency repair by SP Energy.

    cheers everybody!

    Did you mean meterboard
Some call it a meterboard, some a backboard, so the / showed it could be either/or

    ;)
