Massive British Gas bill!

The figures show that maybe it wasn't a good idea to let the Agents give BG the meter readings, rather than read the meters yourself on the day you moved in.
1Mar - 4 April cost £227
£227 converts to roughly 5044 Kwh used in 35 days - 144Kwh a day
4 April - 10 April cost £30
£30 converts to roughly 667 Kwh used in 7 days - 95 Kwh a day
This points to the likelyhood of the heating left running to stop frost problems when the house was untenanted, for which you have picked up the bill.
Sorry, I should have said, the bill of £227 was the combined gas and Electric. The gas was around £170 mark (I don't have the bill with me)0 -
Hi MentalMinnie
The update figure of £170 for 35 days gas works out to roughly 107 Kwh a day so it's not too far off your 95 Kwh a day for 7 days
Get that loft insulation in as fast as you can - It's the cheapest of any of the insulation options, yet saves more money than any other0 -
Agreed. And £30 in 7 days, given the weather and the times you say you have your heating on is not high - its about right, especially if you dont have loft or cavity insulation and also depending on your boiler and how new/efficient it is..
£30 for 7 days would equal £150 in 35 days - so not far off, and as it was REALLY cold during March, probably correct.0 -

How do you record the info? Spreadsheet or app?0 -
Is the Online Energy tariff expensive? Are there cheaper companies/tariffs i could swap to? I have absolutely no clue about these things.0

Can you not now give them your own "opening" readings for 1st March ?
I am sure you will have made a note of them

Unfortunately i've already admitted that i didn't check the meters myself.0 -
I'm going to find it difficult to switch suppliers, given that I cannot give average KWh usage over a year, as I haven't lived in the property very long. Any suggestions on what to do, or should i just stick with BG?0

Just use average kWh figures. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
