cooling off period with car insurance
We took out insurance with a company online on 8/04/2013 to commence 28/4/2013, and paid in full via credit card. After receiving the documents via email today, we rang the insurance company to validate some information, but after noticing our NO CLAIMS was NOT PROTECTED, and finding out it would cost a further £182.00 to PROTECT OUR NO CLAIMS, we decided we would be better off cancelling as we can get it cheaper with our current provided. When we told the company we would like to cancel the intended policy, we was informed we had to email the admin department, and it could incur a cancellation cost as the documents had been issued!
I thought we would have a cooling off period?
any advice gratefully appreciated.

I would doubt there is a cooling off period as you contacted them direct to purchase, genrally cooling off applies if you are approached by a third party at home on the telephone or on the doorstep. I hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction though.0

The annoying thing is there where several errors when the documentation came through, and the policy doesn't come into force for another 18 days!0

The is a cooling off period, but it is permitted for an admin charge to be applied. I would use the error issue to argue for having it cancelled FOC.0

There is a 14 day cooling off period from the date of commencent of policy AFAIK.
But if cancelled after policy has started there would be a deduction for part use.
I wasnt aware there would be anything to pay before it has started to cover if cancelled0 -
How did you buy the cover, direct from the company? comparison site? over the phone etc0

It does not matter, you've 14 days with insurance however you buy.

It does matter as if the reason for the mistake is the Insurers, then they should waive any fee.0 -
I bought the insurance via a comparison site0
