The instructions say set the lock to 0-0-0. Pull out the shackle and turn 90 degrees. Hold down and change the combination.
I have tried this and it will not work, is there something obvious I am missing
Howdy - I bought the 4 digit combination one.
You set it to 0-0-0-0 and then turn the shackle 90 degrees (as you say). Then you push it in (there is a notch) and turn the shackle a further 90 degrees so that it is pointing out over the digits. You can then set the digits to whatever you like, or 1-9-6-6 like almost every bloke doesdesrever sthgir lla0 -

I travel to the states quite a bit.
I bought some of these locks http://www.safeskieslocks.com/store/farberware-luggage-locks-c-4.html . Yes they are expensive and I had to get them to ship them from the US but they are fantastic quality and when I bought them, one of very few 4 dial options. Indeed on more than one occasion I have been asked where to get them.
Now the thing is that I normally get my case searched by TSA every 2nd or 3rd journey (I know becuase they always leave a note) so these things really do work but look at the other option.
If you put a lock on the case they can't get past, they WILL cut it off.
If you don't put a lock on it and a baggage scrote goes in your bag, good look on getting your travel insurance to pay out.0 -
Bought TSA locks in the USA from Big Lots store for $2 each and used them on the return trip. All three cases were opened by US security and locks were replaced after inspection, so they work as intended.0

just had a email newsletter from the www.tripneeds.com website today, they still have the 4-dial TSA locks on offer at £4.69 until the end of august now. Good value I think.
I noticed they have TSA straps also. Does anyone use these luggage straps anymore? I thought luggage these days was durable enough without needing to use a strap as well! Can't see the point myself.0 -
Been reading theis thread for a while now. What troubles me more than people taking things out (as I never really have much worth taking in the suitcase) is people putting things in.
Where would you stand if somebody put something illegal in and you got caught at customs at the other end?0 -
I've never thought of it like this! The only answer to this is that you don't check in any bags (unlikely if you are travelling for any length of time), or??? I don't know?
I've never heard it happening to anyone else but if it did happen I guess whether your bag was locked or unlocked you'd still have trouble explaining why your bag was full of drugs or whatever was stuffed into it.0
