    Hi,

Saw TSA padlocks in ASDA yesterday for £4 (pack of 2).

    Hope this helps.

Am I being a bit think here or what? This is a padlock with a combination lock, not a key system.

How would Customs be able to open it without knowing the combination?

it also has a key slot in the bottom for the customs guy to open it, some show that they have been open but they are usually more expensive.

A fe years ago while over in the US we had to buy a bag to come back with and as security busted one of our locks open we needed extra so we bought some tsa locks for 2 bags 1 had a normal lock. On the return trip we checked the 2 TSA locked cases but had to take the other bag to security, they xrayed it and we had to open it so they could check a few things in there. if it had a TSA lock we could have just checked it and they would have opened it without us knowing.

each lock has a number on the bottom whihc coresponds to a key that security have and they just open it. each time my cases have been opened they have left a note in there.

I will be buying more soon, on our last trip our we missed a connection but the cases made it and were opened as they didnt have tsa locks they were just up against a fence at the carosel in LAX unlocked we were !!!!ed off at that any opertunist could have opened them.

Regarding the locks on the offer above I wouldnt use a combination lock they are openable with enough time hey a 3 number lock only has few thousand combinations if your willing to go through them all.

    Wouldn't a three-number lock have 1,000 possible combinations?

If somebody really wants to get into your bag they will no matter what locks you have. I feel that the locks are more of a deterrent to the casual thief/curious baggage handler. :)

All baggage handlers are thieves. Only way to avoid getting robbed is to carry all your stuff as hand luggage
Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?

These sound very cheap. What kind where they? Were they combination or key locks. If they are combination locks I'm going to buy some!
I looked again on the tripneeds site, they have some pacsafe TSA locks at £5.49. Are the asda ones similar to these? pacsafe are a well known travel security brand but I have no idea if their stuff is any good. I remember checking at Boots and they didn't have any!

I think i'm getting a bit carried away over padlocks! I need another holiday it seems.

The ones in ADSA for £4 were the key-type locks, not combination and they do look similar to the ones on the Tripneeds website. Maybe not brilliant quality but as posted above, they can only be used to stop a casual thief. If someone really wants your stuff, they'll have it.
