    I do think that sometimes the Royal Mail have confused customers in the past on this issue by having different policies in practice in different collection offices. I've only once been asked for ID, which I always take anyway, and usually the card itself is seen as enough.

    I know that staff are just trying to be helpful in some locations by not requiring the ID, but it can cause confusion when customers assume that's the general policy.

    Maybe the OP's Dad blanched at the charges ? Royal Mail really isn't for the people any more. It seems we are clinging to something whose main mission is simply to survive for the benefit of those that work there. That is more or less the same mission as the City of London and look where that got us!


    Even at the most expensive, it works out at only £7per month, or less then £2 per week...

    If you read your red cards
    It states ID is required for the recipient
    If they have stolen your driving licence then you already have issues
    So the rules are being interpreted correctly

    Bank/building society book.
    Valid passport.
    Cheque book.
    Driving licence.
    Photo Identity Card (Foreign National, Military, Police Warrant, Royal Mail Employee).
    Under 18s (National Insurance Card, Medical Card or Savings Book).

    I have to admit, when you work in the locker, you get to know who people are, especially those who get a lot of parcels. So it would be pointless to ask for ID from those people, unless they were picking up for someone else :)

    But in the case of the OP the right thing was done

    You're lucky, in our household we all work so we're not around when we get deliveries and I'd love it if they always left a card and kept the parcel safe. However, they have tended to leave the parcels around the side of our house.

    In a few instances, they have left parcels complete exposed to the elements (and in one case, when we were away for a few days, the parcels were soaked through and ruined*). In another instance, they left a parcel "covered" by putting it in one of our recycling bins - which, only with a bit of luck, did we discover it (when we put something else in the bin before putting it out to be collected). In these cases they did not leave a card saying that it had been left.

    And, before anybody suggests it, we have brought this the Royal Mail's attention and things have improved. Recently, they have still been leaving parcels (sometimes uncovered) but they have been putting a card through the door to let us know.

    [*But, hoping to avoid going off-topic, it did introduce us to Amazon's superb customer service for returns - they were excellent, extremely helpful and efficient]

    You obviously dont understand the term tracked
    This relaters to the tracking through its journey,not at the final destination
