I guess we'd all like to arrange things to suit our own styles of comping, but personally I think it would be a mistake. Although it would be good for those who don't 'twit' or 'FB' to separate those comps, it would be a pain for those who do, to have to wade through different boards to comp. What about those who do Twitter, but not Facebook? For me, I would like all the kiddie and family comps to be on a separate board. Everyone will have their own preferences.

In my humbles we should keep them all together. The red cross makes it so much quicker and easier to bypass the unwanted ones anyway.

  • I don't enter FB comps but do like the twitter ones being on the main page, I'm not a fan of the new mag dailies thread so won't like the twitter comps to disappear in to there own thread, I do those in my lunch break and find it so easy just to search retweet or twitter. Depends how you comp I suppose

Huge thanks to everyone who takes the time and effort to post all the comps! :T

The mag dailies were moved to their own thread because they were "clogging up the main board". I now have to go to that thread to find new posts - so what is the difference between those and the FB & TW comps?

Clicking a red cross isn't that much effort is it??

It'd make things harder for those of us who DO want to enter them, and like Blu says - if you start separating things to keep a group of people happy, then another group of people are going to start demanding other things (like the kid comps for example) get put somewhere else as well - then where will it end?

Far easier to keep everything in the same place.

I agree. Takes a second to click a red cross and see if a title has fb or tw in it. I wouldn't want them moved.

I rarely enter the twitter comps, so often have a long row of crosses on a page.

But I can see it could be advantageous having them separate when you have twitter comps with a short closing date.

With so many competitions added on the main board it's easy for Twitter/Facebook comps to be pushed down the pages quite quickly, so may be missed, or only discovered after the comp has closed.

As far as I was aware, the mag dailies were moved originally not because they were clogging up the board but because there were a hassle to post, first on the main and then in the Daily board. Having them in their own place doesn't work for me but it makes sense. I can't see it working with fb/tw because as people have said if you segregate the board like that you would have to do it for everything, raffle/blog/pinterest/effort etc and that just seems a bit... much

Might it be worth considering adding filters on the board, so that you could exclude certain results in comp titles, like (fb) and (TW)? I'm not sure how much effort would be needed to do that if indeed it can be done - you'd have to fire off a thread in Site Feedback for that. The effect from that though would be lots of "Please put (whatever) in the title" posts.

It might also be worth considering the last time the forum had a reasonably big change was the end date system, which would have worked had it been implemented right. There was a lot of uproar about getting it done, and then a mass riot when it wasn't what it was meant to be.

    If it ain't broke...
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

Your comments have been very interesting, particularly from those who do do twitter/facebook comps.

I would probably agree that a filter to remove fb/tw listings would be just brilliant.

It's actually more of a pain when people don't put facebook or twitter in the title as appropriate.

A little icon next to the comp title would be lovely as it would then be really easy to spot and you wouldn't have to bother with the red cross just ignore those with the icon.

    Hello Compers,

I haven't been comping as much as normal lately, due to personal difficulties. What has really struck me, however, is the monumental increase in the number of Twitter and Facebook comps. It seems that the majority of competitions these days are done via social media. This issue may have already come up on the Compers Chat Corner, and if it has, please forgive the repetition, but would it possible for there to be a separate board for these comps, in the same way that there is a separate board for daily comps? It takes ages to trawl through the increasingly long list of competitions, and as one of many compers that doesn't enter via social media, it would really reduce our time and effort if there could be a separate board for these competitions. What are everyone else's thoughts?

Thanks for reading, and thanks to all the wonderful contributors and competition posters who do such an incredible job! :T
