Coventry Failed to open ISA despite receiving application in time

Do I have any come back?

Due to personal issues, separation and not having ID with my new address on I was last minute in getting my application for the Coventry 60 day notice ISA.

I had called to ask if my application was still valid as they had pulled the account and they said yes but that the application would need to reach them by the close of business on the 5th April for the 12/13 tax year.

So I sent the application in via special delivery and it was received (signed for) at 05.32 on the 5th April.

Yesterday when I got home I found my application,ID & Cheque had been returned with the reason given that they did not receive it before the close of business on the 5th April... and a suggestion that I could open a Poppy ISA instead.

So my question is... They did receive the application.. How do I go about getting it sorted..

1) I'm annoyed that I have potentially lost the ability to open the 2.8% 60 day notice account,

2) I'm annoyed that I have potentially lost out on 12/13 tax free allowance.

Any advice as side from getting my application in earlier next time!

Can only suggest you either telephone them with your complaint. Can you print out your proof of it being signed for them on 5th April? Or you could also send them a secure message when you are logged into your account with the complaint giving all the details you have given here.

Are you sure that is correct?

Royal Mail certainly don't do 5.30am deliveries around here (fortunately!).

Could mean 5.32 pm (after close of business?) You could argue if an employee signed for it, the business hadn't closed.

Definitely 05.32 ... And yes I was surprised as my business post arrives at about 11.30am

I had called yesterday evening when I got in from work (after 7pm) and was fobbed off with a sorry there's nothing we can do. Decided it wasn't worth pushing as the staff are probably just general call centre at that time in the evening.

So called back this morning, they took the tracking number, gave me a reference number and said that someone would call me later.

That call came at 5.45pm and basically the guy said they were trying to get the account open for me and that they had contacted HMRC to see if they could give me the tax free allowance. He said if they couldn't get it sorted out they would offer me compensation, what that is I don't know. But it's promising that something will get sorted out.

40 years at compounded interest growth on the amount you put in the account I'd be looking for at least in terms of compensation. But it would then all depend on what rate you'd use.
