buying software on ebay

I am thinking about buying some software for my computer (Photoshop cs3). This normally retails around £500+. I noticed on ebay that someone is selling unboxed copies for £29. It's the full licensed version not a beta or demo:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PHOTOSHOP-CS3-Full-Unrestricted-Version-NOT-CS2_W0QQitemZ270120342472QQihZ017QQcategoryZ162QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He seems to have sold a lot and has 100% positive feedback on 13 ratings.

Can it really be this cheap?

It will be a copy supplied with the unlock code.

Bought Microsoft 2003 like this a few years ago and paid about £15 for it. I am happy enough as it loaded correctly and not bothered that its a copy.

However, software manufacturers and Ebay do have a problem with it and ebay will likely suspend the supplier.

I too am looking to buy photoshop in the next few weeks and will be looking at Ebay.

There is absolutely no place you will buy Photoshop CS3 for £29, it is pirated software. Will be supplied with a crack or a key generator.

All this person has done is download the software themselves and made a cd or dvd of it. This seller wont last long on ebay

Nice little earner for the seller .. bit of downloading, some blank DVDs and a few padded envelopes and away you go - surprised Ebay didn't pull the auction but then they don't care that much as long as they get their fees sadly.

It's pirated software plain and simple ...and if Adobe force some software updates on you it's very likely it'll stop working, depends if you can be bothered to look for a new CD key each time this happens I guess.

Just had a look at what else the bloke is selling .. quite the cheeky chap this one :)

    Cheers,

It's the full version, but it will probably have a crack to bypass any need for a CD key.

It's up to you whether you want to break the law, pay a horrendously high price for the software or do without. £500 for Photoshop and £1500+ for the full suite is appallingly expensive. It would still be pirated if it was cheaper, but if they charged a more reasonable price in the first place...

Somehow, I don't think padded envelopes and blank discs were necessary - look at the f/b and the dates of purchase; the f/b was left by the 'buyers' within minutes.

Obviously using 'friend's' accounts to make it look OK - f/b cannot be genuine

Oh, and have a look at the f/b of the 'buyers'!

Yes, I'd be a bit suspect about the seller judging by his past buyers. Also, what's the scam he's pulling with the wallpaper drawing? - 'don't bid, will add a description later'...I'm missing something but can't quite decide what.

If you're willing to pay money for a pirate copy, you may as well download it as a torrent yourself, for free, and save yourself from lining someone elses pockets.

disclaimer; in no way am I advocating that anyone breaks copyright laws by illegally downloading
  • Thanks guys. Appreciate your opinions. Think I'll give it a miss (sigh).
  • I can't comment on this particular seller but I bought Macromedia Dreamweaver MX a good while ago from an Ebayer for £20 when it sells brand new on Ebay for about £110. Yes, it was a copy, but it came with a Keygen and works exactly the same as an off-the-shelf one would. It's not the type of program that you need updates for and neither is Photoshop in all honesty.

I say go for it. You've got nothing to lose and a lot to gain.
