No balance transfer offers at Barclaycard means no balance transfers at all?

Just so I know I'm not going mad, or that I wasn't speaking to an idiot, I just phoned Barclaycard up, asked to do a balance transfer expecting the 6.something rate or whatever it is for existing customers, the guys waffles on and on for a minute before finally saying there are no offers for balance transfers on my account (exact words). I said never mind but I wasn't that bothered about a lower rate, he waffles again then asks me if there's anything else. I say, well yes, the balance transfer... To which he explains that, there's no offer on my account, so I can't do one.

At this point I hung up. Is actually the case? I'm sure I used to be able to do balance transfers, but Barclaycard have been a right pain in the !!!! over the last couple of weeks so it wouldn't surprise me if they've done this delibratly to wind me up even more.

I was in arrears by 27 quid, they told me to do a transfer I had to bring the account up to date. So I did, then I get told I have to wait 48 hours for their system to update. So I have, and now they're telling me I can't do a transfer at all.ike I said they've been !!!!ing me around.

They get a monthly feed from Equifax credit agency and based on that and you say being in arrears of £27 may have had some impact on not being offered any promotional offers.

If the offers are not there the Customer service rep cannot offer them. As you are no doubt aware we are at the mercy of their computer system.

Barclaycard have done this to me in the past, they don't have to transfer a balance for you but if you wait a couple of months your offers might come back.

My barclaycard online account will only let me do a balance transfer if there is a special offer available (which is most of the time anyway), I don't think this is an attempt to 'wind you up'.

Do you actually need the Barclaycard? Do you have other cards you could spend on?

I'm asking because if you were to phone up and say you will cancel the card, and give the reason as "you won't give me a balance transfer" or something similar - they may put you through to their 'specialist team' or 'retentions', whose job it is to keep you as a customer. They *may* be able to override the computer, it depends on the company. Being in arrears would not have helped though - it may be an automatic no, whatever retentions try to do.

If not, they may just cancel your card, hence my other question! Could you cope with no Barclaycard, given that you may not get one again (certainly not in the short term).

There are no offers on my Barclaycard at the moment either and so it isn't possible to balance transfer at any rate.

    Options:

    1. Wait a few months to see if anything changes
    2. Phone and say you want to cancel (assuming you have £0 balance). They will often offer you a BT deal if you say the reason you are closing your account is no current deals (I have done this multiple times but there are no guarantees)

I have the Simplicity card with a 7.9% apr. The terms and conditions say i can transfer a balance without a fee and still the same 7.9% as with purchases.

When i log into my account it says "Unfortunately, we're unable to transfer a credit card balance or move money to your current account as you have no offers for either at the moment"

I never thought i had to rely on offers being available for this service if it was part of my original terms and conditions?

We have three Barclaycards (one each and an Egg transfer for me) and having had non stop offers for a long time these have indeed dried up (even though one account saw a 40% increase in credit limit a month or so back).

I suspect that this is due to the fact that they haven't made a penny out of me/us from previous transfers and we don't spend on the cards at all.

The system got bored of us it seems!:rotfl:

Who knows? I was just putting forward a potential reason.

I don't view it as an entitlement anyway, so what will be will be.
