Investing UK based money whilst living abroad

Well I opened 2 when non resident in the UK (Coventry too). 2 of the 3 are still open and operated offshore.
I suppose they either changed things in the last few years, or they have different requirements for different accts.0 -
As you mentioned property as an option you could maybe look into investing in student pods or hotel rooms, this would be totally hands off as far as management. I am currently investigating these as options to generate an income as savings interest rates are so low and you can apparently net incomes of over 9%, others may be better placed than me to advise on the risks though. Apparently the majority of investors are non UK residents.0

You obviously tend to get feedback from unhappy customers but there has been adverse reports on these, just search fresh start on this forum.0 -

I won't touch them with a barge pole, mainly as they're an investment property, and only an investment property, meaning that you'll be limited to who you can sell to.
We have several BTL's, and none of these are anywhere near this area.

BTL would only be potentially practical if you found a reliable agency that manages all aspects for you. This would cost a substantial sum of money every month, regardless of whether the property is occupied.
But much more importantly, BTL would be an "all eggs in same basket" approach. If you want property exposure, it is easy to get in property funds, which you can complement with funds in other areas, thereby achieving a balanced portfolio.0 -
Student Pods? Hotels rooms?
Wouldn't touch them, like CK, with a barge pole0 -
Bank of Cyprus UK, Investec and State Bank of India UK all accept the R105 form. I have opened accounts at all of these with my Cyprus address. They are all covered by the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme.0

Similar position to you - I'm using HSBC Premier GBP account based in Jersey which is paying pretty much no interest at all on my deposit (qualifying balance)
I'm planning to invest some into funds via a UK broker - TD Direct Investing seems to accept applications from non UK residents which might be an option if you're looking at that route rather than cash savings?0 -
