Accepting bank transfer from overseas... safe?

Hi ladies and gents
Just a quick question.
I am selling an item for £150 + delivery on eBay to a buyer in Italy. The buyer has offered to pay by bank transfer if I knock some of the price off which will save us both a substantial sum on the eBay and paypal fees. I only wanted £100 cash for this item so I'd be willing to let it go for £135 to Italy (which covers tracked and insured Courier delivery).
Is it safe to give my full name, sort code and account number out? Could he reverse the payment at any time or am I right in thinking that bank transfers are non-refundable (I'd wait 24/48hours to be sure)
Really desperate to get rid of this item. It's a medical grade wedge for babies suffering GERD and aspiration so I am just happy that a baby who really needs it will get it soon. I had it shipped from America and I don't think the buyer can find anywhere that will ship to Italy.

Take a loss?
Only use Paypal?
Not give your bank details? Ever used a cheque?
OP give them your IBAN and BIC, both can be found on your statement or obtained from your bank. You will need to factor in any charges your bank charge for EU transfers and add this to the cost.
Although there is no official clearance times, if you leave it 'overnight' you are safe to dispatch the next day.0 -
I went through with it and gave them the IBAN and BIC as this was all they asked for.
Fair point made, I might be scammed but you live and you learn! I'll let you know how I get on, thanks for the help.Debt December 2012 - Approx £4070...

But hey ho, I am not going to remind anyone of the dangers, she is an adult and knows the potential pitfalls and it is my opinion cos I think it sounds dodgy, when people want to conduct business in ways you are warned not to participate in, by everyone on the internet ! I have never sold anything to someone on ebay who asked me to ditch paypal but then required all my full name bank address and every single piece of my private info to do the deal!
You haven't sold outside of the UK yet are "quick to give advice".
If you don't know, then don't advise. And clearly you don't know much.
Ebay is not the be all and end all.
Bank transfer is much safer than Payal for a seller, UK or international sale.
I am not sure where the "get rich quick" attitude comes from, it certainly is not from the OP.
Perhaps it is past your bed time?0 -

You can't be scammed.
There is no recall on the transfer.

OP is the seller, not the buyer- so is not losing paypal protection, the buyer is.
As for bank transfers, yes they are safe as a recipient- unsafe for the sender. Ignore the scare stories- I assume some people are very young and have never used a cheque.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How juvenile.
Duncan biscuits. You remove your posts, but forget I have quoted you along with Soolin doing the same.
Are you for real or just naturally stupid?0 -

So, if you wouldnt mind editing or reviewing your venomous posts to me, so I dont have to click all the emails and report them to the site and publically apologise to me I will accept it.
:rotfl:
So, let me get this right. You have removed your posts but because I have quoted you, you want me to remove mine? All this and with an apology.
:T. Hilarious!0 -
Your views were not trashed, they were wrong.

All posts can be reported, as well as mine- however, I do not believe that pointing out your errors is cyber bullying. This forum is designed to assist people, not to just allow people to give inaccurate advice which may cause problems later.
You are of course at liberty to remove your posts in the cold light of day when you have reflected on them, but it can give the wrong impression to people viewing the thread and give less weight to how much you value your own advice. If you feel th eneed to withdraw your advice it hardly gives those being offered it a sense that you believe what you are saying.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why would I need to ignore someone who posts and then deletes their posts?
All of my replies were in relation to the OP. Perhaps have a read back
The only ones which have strayed, are to answer your now deleted moans, like this one!0
