TalkTalk broadband connection at snails pace

Hi all
It's mid evening and my TalkTalk broadband connection is a slow as anything. I'm downloading a game in Steam and it's going at about 41KB/s (much slower than my 3Mb line should be able to achieve). Whilst downloading, this, I am also struggling to get on websites because the browser times out due to it taking so long to load. I never had this problem when my connection was with O2. Has anyone got any ideas?
