Compensation for flight delays

Options
In January this year my wife and I took a Business Class flight with Emirates to Melbourne via Dubai. On approach to Dubai we were told it was a busy time and we were to join the stack but not to worry as our onward connection would be safe.

Soon after that we were told that we must now divert to Sharja to refuel. On landing at Sharja the pilot told us that another A380 has landed in front of us also to refuel and would have to await our turn.

Over 3 hours later we landed at Dubai to be told that our connecting flight had departed and we had to queue to find the next flight which turned out to be some 8 hours later.

We were offered nothing at all from the airline.

Is there anything here that would qualify us to apply for compensation?

Many thanks

I too was in Dubai January 23rd /24th we were delayed by 4 hours out of Ho Chi Minh (fog on the runway in Dubai we were told ) therefore missing our connecting flights to Manchester by 2 hrs .We had to stand & queue for 8 hours & were in the airport just over 12 hrs.We missed our airport pick-up at Manchester too as our flight left on time without us. To add salt to the wound the train home was derailed too.
Dubai airport have said it's due to circumstances beyond their control & the Dubai shopping Festival therefore they could offer no accommodation as they were all full. Their email said I was to claim from my travel insurance which I don't feel is right as it was their problem not mine.
I too would appreciate some help with this .

Unless your Ho Chi Minh to Dubai flight was on an EU airline then the EU compensation does not apply so travel insurance is your only hope

If it was on an EU airline, as the delay was caused by an event outside the airlines control so no compensation would apply
You would be however entitled to 'care' whilst waiting on the next flight this would include hotel costs and meals as appropriate to the delay. If they did not provide a hotel you would apply for reimbursement of your costs incurred for a hotel room if you sent in receipts etc

Thankyou for your reply Caz3121 As we were not allowed to move out of the queues for the 8 hours standing we didn't get the luxury of a hotel room. Drinks were offered while we were standing & a meal after the 8 hours. So the only thing I could do is apply for my transfer home from the airport.Hardly seems right for the way they handled it.I would settle for an apology if they would admit how rude they were not just with us but with everyone.....but pigs may also fly one day.
  • I am pursuing flight delay compensation from Quantas for a 10 hour delay in Singapore on a flight from London Heathrow to Sydney.
Has anyone had any success in contacting them or received compensation?

Was it one flight number from London to Sydney or 2 separate flights.
Was the LON - SIN flight on time?
If a separate Qantas flight from SIN to SYD then this is not covered by EU regulations
