Personally, I haven't bothered locking my suitcases for the last few years. I reckon fancy locks are just an indication that there is something worth pinching or hiding in there.

Ditto...we used to use cable ties but gave up on that too several years ago.

We have one case that is always opened on the way home - never on the way out...on the way back it's filled with American foodstuffs and headache tablets, mostly...we assume it rattles suspiciously...other than that cannot recall our cases being opened that we're aware of.

Depending on the size of these clothes and the airline I would think that carrying them on might be an option in a regular cabin luggage sort of case...garment bag might work but might be only item you could carry on.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I reckon it'll take all of 3 seconds for the TSA to get into those (if they want to !)

3 seconds is pushing it but I can do them in under 10.

having had a lot experience in this kinda thing I would have to disagree.

thieves are opportunists and if they can get in and out of a bag quickly they will choose that over popping zips/picking locks etc.

if you followed your way of thinking you would never lock your car or house up

I was thinking along the lines of using a Cumbrian screwdriver and an appropriate lever :D

If you saw the state of my car you'd wonder why I bother locking it. I wish someone would steal it.

In terms of luggage, I'm not aware of anything being taken but then again I never have anything of high value in my checked baggage. If someone wants to steal my dirty socks and pants then they are welcome to them :)

i personally think its more important to make your bag tamper evident rather than fully locked up, personally I use cable ties and there are ways which make it far more obvious if someone has messed with your bag

Thanks for the pics, its a conundrum.

If the straps with a lock work, guessing thats your best option and then leave the case unlocked
