Advent laptop keeps shutting down!

I am so annoyed that I did not read this thread sooner.
I have put up with this fault for two years. I also paid for product support and Currys had my details.
Like most people on here, I bought the lap top in April 2007.
If this problem was so widespread, then why was there no product recall?0 -
I've been given an Advent 5312 with similar problems, and which won't turn on at all now. I guess it's 1~2 years old. having read the above, I guess I'm wasting my time!
This machine has worked for a while, but having paid (I guess) £4~500 one would expect more durability. It appears that Advent have good, bad and middling models - but a consistent theme here is the response of Currys / Tech Guys. Whilst there's a scientific principle that states "the fault complained of will not manifest in the presence of a competent person" one would have thought some competent person would have the problem sussed by now.
It appears that 'The Tech Guys' are either incompetent, in denial ...or maybe just following orders? Either way, are these people that one would wish to do business with?0 -
I am sick of the Advent computer. My mum had it and she gave it to me. All of a sudden, it kept switching off and on when I was installing something. Especially on MSN. Plus, it keeps having ''VERTICAL COLOURED LINES'' when I move the screen. Its very annoying0

I won't get a refund I suppose, and now my mum blames it on me! The keyboard doesn't work well either, the computer is slow and dim witted!!!!!0

HI guys.I have an 19mth old advent k4000. After having loads of probs and a replacement hard drive it has gone again.PC world wont touch it unless I pay up to 225.00 to sort it out as they thin k its the motherboard not the hard drive...
Has anyone got hold of the manufacturers of these laptops?
Dont know what to do next.

I have looked at the various replies on this problem and believe that the root problem may be much simpler - STATIC ELECTRICITY!
It may sound crazy but I have dry hands and get the same problem with the computer cutting out so I have reduced the problem by using hand cream. I do not have to do this with my Dell Laptop which has no such issues. I regularly update windows and run virus software etc.
I used to get the problem when touching the onboard finger pad.
Hope this may help.0 -
Thanks DJMBERKO, perhaps i shall try a anti static wristband and give that a go.
If it is to do with static electricity then surely this is a design fault and not a customer problem so Currys should re-call the laptops?
altho im sure curry's will say static electricity is out of their control.0
