Advent laptop keeps shutting down!

If you have any documentary evidence that you have complained to your supplier of problems in the past then that will certainly help. If you are simply thinking of friends who will say that you have had problems, I doubt that this would make any difference.
However, it's a common misconception that once the manufacturers warranty has expired your rights for redress also expire. They don't, and you have a right to expect a "reasonable lifetime" from whatever you buy.
I would suggest that you contact them and say that it has never functioned properly, and that you would like it repaired (or replaced if it cannot be repaired properly).0 -
Hi
I bought the same model laptop and it kept cutting out aswell, I rang the Tech Guys who took it away 4 times to try and fix it and still the problem remained, I tryed a new battery, fan was replaced, different heat synk...
No Difference, so looked on the internet and apparently lots of people had the same problem for that model laptop.
So I took it back to currys and I got my money back and got A different laptop which is fine...
Hope this helps!!!0 -

Windows help knows nothing about it but I have 35 logs all the same all getting more frequent. Sometimes 3 times in about 15-20 minutes.
Going to try and get it changed tomorrow for another make I think.

Hi all,
i two have an advent ert2250 laptop which is about 5 months old.
I have always had problems with it turning off for no reason. I called the tech guys who told me that it would be a software issue, i decided to wipe my laptop but i still have the same problem with just windows vista on.
The laptop gets hot so i bought a Cooling Fan from Curry's for £19.99 (this did not work)
after 3 phone calls to the tech guys, deleting Nero as they blamed that, then wiping my laptop 2 times, the tech guys decided that the laptop needed to go in for repair.
the laptop was collected and returned 6 days later with the fault report saying "Cleaned internal fan" i turned the laptop on again and within 2 hours it turned off again. I started to keep logs on when the machine turned off, after the 10 times within a few weeks i called the tech guys again.
The tech guys asked me to wipe the laptop again, ( i did this again ) after wiping the laptop i re-installed windows vista (which was provided by Curry's) and installed MS Office and AVG Antivirus. (i use AVG on my home pc with no problems)
the laptop turned off twice within a few hours.
i called the tech guys again, who advised me that it could be either a CPU problem or a Motherboard problem. i was told by the tech guy to leave the laptop on in Bios mode for around 3 hours, if the laptop turned off it would be a motherboard problem, if it stayed on it would be CPU problem, i was asked to call back in 3 hours time.
after 3 hours, i called the tech guys and told them that the laptop did not turn off, the tech guy arranged for it to be sent away for a replacement CPU.
The laptop was returned 4 days later with the job ticket saying the AC mains adaptor had been replaced. (i knew this wouldnt work as the laptop turns off using the battery aswell.)
After 2 days the laptop turned off again. i have called the tech guys again who told me to wipe the laptop (in an angry voice i told them that i have already done this several times and told them that the CPU should or been replaced but wasnt.
The Laptop is being picked up again, i will keep you informed of the out come when its returned.
After i decided to call the complaints line, i told them my problems with the machine and asked if i could have a refund or a replacement model (not the ert 2250) i was told that the machine would have to go in at least 5 times for the same fault for it to be replaced. i also said that this machine should not be sold and asked if they had any other complaints about this machine, i was told i was the first? I told the guy on the end of the phone to visit this site.
One other thing, i spoke to an I.T person who said that the advert ert2250 had been "over clocked" it should be a 1.66ghz but is over clocked to 1.73, they reckon the laptop is overlaoding hence turning off. i dont know how true this as im not that tech with computers.
all i can advise is please DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL LAPTOP unless you enjoy talking to the tech guys. i Have another Advent laptop (K4000) this works fine, Please just stay away from the ERT2250.
UPDATE
The laptop has had a replacement motherboard, cpu and heat shrink fan, it worked fine for about 2 weeks then started turning off again.
The tech guys have had it back again, they did so called tests for 9 days and returned it back saying no fault.
i sent an email saying the 12months would be up soon so where would i stand, i got a reply email saying that the laptop has been in several times now with no fault found, it must be a problem with the software i have on there. (so basically currys have washed there hands of it)
i have emailed back saying that if the laptop has a problem with using Miscosoft office etc, then Advent and Microsoft have that problem and not me. i have now demanded a replacement Laptop ( i refuse to have another T2250) so have asked for a same spec model.
Update
i have been fighting with Currys/Techguys for over 8months about this laptop, they refuse to replace it and now refuse to repair it as its out of the 12month period. Currys have told me that i need to send the laptop away at my cost and if a fault is found then they may refund me.
i HAVE ASKED CURRYS TO INVESTIGATE THIS LAPTOP AND THEY REFUSE TO BECAUSE THEY SAY IT HAS NO FAULT AND NO ONE ELSE HAS REPORTED THIS TYPE OF FAULT TO THEM.
Currys now refuse to reply to my emails or help me, i recieved a email from them stating that they would not respond to my emails etc anymore as the 12months is up (EVERYONE THINK VERY HARD BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING FROM CURRYS, AS THEY REALLY DONT KNOW HOW TO LOOK AFTER CUSTOMERS)
i have contacted trading standards (consumer direct) and Watchdog, i think the rest of us should get together and do the same.
ANY WAY, WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY A ADVENT T2250 LAPTOP, YOU ARE JUST ASKING FOR TROUBLE IF YOU DO. ALSO I WOULDNT BUY ANYTHING FROM CURRYS AS THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU WHEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS MACHINE.
THEY SHOULD BE CALLED CURRYS, ALWAYS CUTTING CORNERS0 -
Guys, this is clearly a Sale of Goods Act issue, regardless of warranties etc. Why not exercise your rights, get a full refund and take your money elsewhere?0

I spent two months,£20 on phone calls and two personal visits to the Hemel Hempstead branch of Curry's and FINALLY they gave me a refund! Curry's KNOW theres a problem but they repeatedly fob their customers off with the Tech Guys who are as useful as the proverbial Chocolate Fireguard!!!
I urge people to think long and hard before buying anything for the Dixons group!0 -
Just to clarify. the Intel T2250 speed IS 1.73 GHz according to Intel, so overclocking is not the issue...se link fi=or Intel's spec.

Just as a side note, there are other techie forums I've found reporting the same problems, and reporting the cause was faulty capacitors either in the PSU or around the processor on the mobo. Could easily have been a bad batch of caps that were supplied to a particular production run.
I have a vested interest, as I got an ERT2250 refurb from pcworld in march/april...touch wood so far so good, no shutdowns !! Just hope I ain't got one of you guy's returned machines......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I've also had issues with this - it's conked out on me whist doing A Level coursework >.< Luckily I've got used to saving after every couple of sentences, but it's still a damn pain.
Mine's no longer under warranty and doesn't have the box or anything - would I still be able to take it back to Comet?
I've also had the power socket come loose (the repair shop bloke said that could only happen from "malicious damage" - sorry, but !!!!!! would I maliciously damage my own £500 laptop?! Especially when it cost me £115 to fix it!) and after having it repaired a couple of months ago, it's now doing it again. I cannot afford to have the socket replaced again - I may well buy an ASUS EEE if it does it again!
Not at ALL happy with this laptop
