every time i fire up the stove i light it in the usual way. Once the fire gets going and before the pump has a chance to kick in the central heating i get an awful whistling noise. I used to think it was the air whistling up the fluepipe because of the draw but now on closer inspection its coming from the back boiler/flow pipe. The back boiler is making a whoosing noise every 5 seconds or so (imagine a steam train building up speed) and the whistling noise is coming from the flow pipe. Its like its boiling the water before its got a chance to heat up the hot water tank properly.
The only way i can stop it is to close the vents back down and gradually increase them slowly over the course of about half an hour to get it safely back up to temperature. I know the stove isnt overheating as i monitor the temperature on the stovepipe
Any ideas?

Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

I get the same, but have only had mine installed for 3 days or so. Can really hear the pipes going too!0

Happens in ours, just the water boiling ( kettleing ) before the pump has chance to kick in, you can get additive to add to the system to make it quieter which is what I did in our last house where we had the same problem as well. Fernox do the additive. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

just had a look at their products. they seem to do quite a few additives! Is it the fernox f5 additive? How did you go about adding it?

No its the F2 Boiler Noise Silencer.
I got the one where it is in a tube, you put that into a mastic gun and inject it into the system via a radiator bleed valve. They come with full instructions. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
