well the first question is do you want new or are you happy with refurb? the second is of course how much do you really want to spend?

refurb tends to mean you get more for your money, as the 'equivelent' new systems to the refurbs i have posted are slightly more expensive ~£20 and have slightly lower spec (less RAM), but of course they have been refurbed - on the flip side they (the ones i have posted) still come with a 12 month warrenty same as a new laptop should anything go wrong, the problem with those is dealing with PC world,

if you want to go new then of the ones Cisco has posted will depend on your budget the first one is the best processor by far, but also the most expensive,

the second has a lower processor but a dedicated graphics card which is better for games,

the third one is pretty much in the middle of the others in performance - processor and graphics closer to the second but more RAM which will help with its speed

the last one is only really worth it if the cashback comes through, the spec is the worst of all but of course with the cashback the price drops to less than the others

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Excellent thanks Gonzo. Perfectly honest refurbished or brand new dosent bother me either way as long he isnt going come to me in a month or so saying its to slow, broken etc...

Looking through the ones suggested if you had a choice of your suggestions or cisco's which laptop would you go for as all are in my budget.

    Thanks again

personally i would go for either of the refurbs or Cisco's first suggestion, reasoning being

the core i5s are blooming fantastic processors, and so will give the best perfomance, and will have more than enough power for most people, the intergrated graphics on the i5's are acceptable and more than good enough for football manager games and can even deal with some slightly more demanding games if required (on low setting of course)

the other refurb with the AMD processor is a good system if your son is likely to want to expand into further gaming beyond football manager within the next year or 2 as although the processor is not as powerful as the core i5, the graphics are better and is likely to have better drivers going forward, which will improve the performance even more, the AMD refurb also has nearly as good a graphics chipset as the one quoted with a dedicated graphics card (only 1 graphics chipset seperates them) and the processor performance is better than the i3 included (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-2365M-vs-AMD-A8-4500M)

of the others Cisco has linked, they are all good value, however if your willing to go refurb the refurbs of course do give a better specced system for the same sort of money

then of course you have a colour choice as well, blue, red or white ;)

just remember which ever one you go for - any one could be a dud just down to chance, so if possible buy with a credit card to get the extra consumer protection over and above the distance selling regs

One plus point for an ACER is that you can obtain an Extended Warranty with Accidental Damage cover for £32.

Though check with the vendor before purchase that the model that you intend to purchase is covered. Should be, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Do you often find you do get "Dud" laptop if you purchase refurb's?

pretty much the same as if you buy new, the whole idea of these refurbs (ie the ones with a full 12 month warrenty) is that they are in a AS NEW condidtion,

you could look at it on the other hand that the refurbs could already have already been a dud which they have fixed and tested to make sure its fixed whereas a new one would not have been tested, so you might find that the % of dud refurbs is actually lower than new's due to this testing, this of course is just a thought and i have no statistics to back up this assupmtion
