hi
I WAS wondering if anyone can tell me where i can get a worcester boiler and fitted for £1200 -1600 at the most ?
our boiler which is 14 years old and a potterton puma keeps turning off- it has been doing that for years on and off but now all the time -
i am desperate to get the new boiler but am worried to call firms up -
my stepdad is a pensioner and i am unemployed so we can't pay more and i am worried we will get ripped off.
of course i know there are lots of decent companies, but as i have heard of people getting ripped off because they are naieve.(and seen more than 1 documentary about it)
i do have numbers of companies but because they are mobiles i am worried if they fit the boiler and then it breaks if they don't have an address i won't be able to get in touch with them again
thanks very much in advance-
jacquie

Firstly, are you sure the boiler needs replacement?
I would firstly get a quote from BG and find out exactly what the estimate involves - flushing radiators, guarantee etc.
They very probably will be more expensive than the majority of companies, but at least you will have a baseline figure to work with when getting estimates from other companies and prevent yourself being ripped off by the cowboys that operate. For instance if BG say £2,500 you will probably get it done for £2,000. but make sure it is for exactly the same amount of work.
Whoever you get, make sure you have an estimate in writing.0 -
See if your local Trading Standards has an "approved trader" scheme. Ours does and they vet traders to ensure they're not cowboys.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

I wouldn't call mobile number only firms, sounds well untraceable.
Its likely to cost more than £1200-£1600, or at least near the top end of that figure at best for a boiler replacement, a reasonable boiler will cost £500 before even starting work.
When you call round and get the people to quote, explain the situation and that you want a detailed quote. British Gas usually quote OTT then when you tell them you've got better quotes their boiler will suddenly be on offer and the whole quote will get cheaper.
As for cowboys, CORGI were set up at the insistance of British Gas becasue of the cowboys operating in the trade all those years ago and the biggest short cutters were found to be mostly the British Gas engineers.0
