  • Am not allowed to post links as I'm a new user. Did a Google search and found a great car on Autotrader, found the article below on TheFreeLibrary.com so don't think I'll be looking at the car.

(Mohammed Ibrar is the registered owner of the website countrywidecarsltd.co.uk)

A SECOND hand car dealer who fiddled the mileage on vehicles he sold to trusting buyers has been jailed for 18 months.

Mohammed Ibrar, of Chetwynd Road, Ward End, wiped thousands of miles from the odometers of his cars and he also supplied his customers with fake service history documents.

Birmingham Crown Court heard that, on average, the 32-year-old wiped between 40,000 to 50,000 miles off the clock.

And Ibrar, who traded Countrywide Cars from his home address as well as two other outlets, and advertised through Autotrader, made around pounds 16,000 from the scam.

He pleaded guilty to 13 charges under the Fraud Act, 10 in relation to providing a false service history, three of possessing a false instrument and three of advertising vehicles for sale with false odometer readings.

Lee Bennett, prosecuting, said Ibrar, who traded as Countrywide Cars, said the charges related to 15 cars which had been bought from auction, that the fraud went on for 18 months and that the total discrepancy in mileage was 699,715.

Mr Bennett said the defendant had made a profit of around pounds 16,000.

Graham Henson, defending, said Ibrar had been under family and financial pressures.

In jailing Ibrar Judge Phillip Parker QC said Ibrar's fraud had been "professional" and that his profit had been significant.

He said "Most purchasers of cars are ignorant of the mechanics of the car and they rely on the legitimacy of the odometer.

"In this particular case there is a severe aggravating feature in that you would back up the apparent legitimacy of the odometer with a false service history.

"The profits on each vehicle were significant and the clocking of the mileage was significant, on an average of between 40,000 and 50,000 miles."

The judge also said that the victims not only paid over the odds for their vehicle, but if they chose to try and sell it could find themselves in severe financial loss.

And he went on: "In order to deflect attention from the authorities you used a series of different trading names so that your activities would not immediately be spotted."
