Water Usage

Hi

I was wondering if you can tell me what your average water usage is as I feel our bill is way too high and wanted to verify this.

We moved house a year ago and have a water meter. To be fair I hadn't really thought much about it before as we've never been on a meter before but just got our latest water bill through and been looking into it and I think the usuage just seems way too high. According to their actual readings we've used 129m3 in 6mths for the 2 of us. Do people think this seems too high?

if so also has anyone got any ideas on how we can challenge this?

Thanks

So have you verified the readings on the meter yourself? It's there for you to read, not just the water utility.

Most people use about 1m3 per person per week. If you use any outside water this will increase and you can also be frugal with the water such as having short showers instead of baths and it will reduce a little.

You are using 355 litres per person per day and this is about twice the average. Do you use any water outside? Watering the lawn with a sprinkler could use 1,000 litres per hour. Swimming pool? Hot tub?

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. Clarifies my theory we may have a leak. We are v frugal with our water. We don't have any outside water (wash the cars v occasionally) and we shower rather than bath (with some of these being at the gym rather than home) therefore seems unlikely our water consumption for the 2 of us can be so high without there being a leak somewhere.

We use 120-130 litres a day based on 2 of us and were in virtually all day. washing machine only used for full loads, likewise the dishwasher (normally 3 times per week). Never use bath but shower used twice a day.

Suggest you check for dripping taps, leaking overflow on toilet etc (remember some overflow into the pan so not obvious that its overflowing)

It is very easy to check for a leak.

Note (very accurately) the meter reading when you are not going to use any water for a few hours, and it should be exactly the same reading when you re-check
