Delay compensation

We were delayed 8hrs last year and have been in contact with First choice. They say it was a technical issue because it was something to do with the weather radar. They say it wasn't due to poor maintenance or something that should have been picked up in the essential pre-flight checks so they dont have to pay compensation. It is impossible to know if the weather radar has had adequate maintenance. I think they are just using technicalities to avoid paying any compensation.
