I'm sure I'm not the only one out there to feel like this but sometimes I feel like my life is on hold until I finish my DMP!

i'M 33 and single - I spend too many weekends just sitting in front of the box because I can't afford to head out etc to restaurants and fancy bars with friends.

Does anyone else feel like this? I'm having a bit of a bad time at the minute feeling low and wondering if things are ever going to get better.

I'd love to chat to some people who are in the same boat and see how you manage to entertain yourselves!

Sometimes I feel by the time my DMP is over I'll be told old to do the things I want to do now and I'll never meet anybody whilst on this DMP!

There's a DFW singles thread on here somewhere - do a search and you will find lots of similar people.

Being single is great for cutting debt, particularly if you are a chivalrous guy ;) I cleared mine and have been happily living with my partner for the past two years.

Well done on clearing your debt!

Thanks. Nothing wrong with the approach you are taking.
  • Why do you have to head off the fancy restaurants or other places to have a good time? You can have just as good a time round at your place with a few cans or a bottle of wine and some home made food.

I took my daughter to TGI Fridays last week which cost about £35 for two lots of burgers and drinks - it would have cost about £5 all in if I'd done it at home.

That is what they mostly do and I join them once in a blue moon. They have plenty of money and that is their choice to spend it as they please. Its not their fault I made mistakes getting into debt and can't afford to join them. Believe you me I sit at home all too often and yes while its great for doing things on a budget etc sometimes you do get bored of looking at the same four walls.

The summer is coming (i am told), BBQs are a great way to cheaply entertain, tell people to bring their own stuff. You can make some cheap kebabs etc, look impressive but are actually not expensive.

Alternatively, you could set up a "Connoisseurs Club" - fine dining at home - get a group together and take turns to go to each others houses for a home cooked meal.

Again with the advent of summer, encourage walking trips in countryside locations - inexpensive.

Often people going to fancy bars and restaurants all the time do so out of habit, break their chain with some cheap alternative suggestions - as above.

Depends what your interests are really.

Go to galleries, museums, parks (cheap picnics), look for vouchers for deals, the library, local groups, or consider volunteer work. Working at a soup kitchen or suchlike on a Saturday night might not be glamorous, but if you did find one of your co workers attractive, you've got the reassurance of knowing they're a nice person.... if you don't, you'd still be making a huge difference to the lives of those less fortunate.

Or suggest to your friends that you do a 'Come Dine with Me' month... Each week, one of you cooks for the others (on a fixed budget), and the winner gets a big box of chocolates. Each person takes a bottle of wine for the other meals, so the nights can be fairly cheap.

Come visit the Single and in Debt thread.... we're nice there.

I think you need to find some new friends. Are there any dogs living near you? Do you know anyone with a dog? Offer to take it a walk, you meet lots of people when dog walking, and it's free.

Good point decided you have to live as well. Last month might have cleared a lot off my debt but was so miserabl3 and fed up.

Singleton here as well, not sure the dog helps extra mouth to feed lol
