    Hi ,

Print this out and plot him on this , but I think personally doing very quick calculations he is in proportion .

    http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/growthcharts/boystwoyears.gif

flipping heck!!! according to that chart my 6 year old ds is the average hight of t 8 year old  I knew he was the tallest in his class but I didn't think he was THAT tall!

Crazychik if your kids are both healthy and growing then they are both the size they are meant to be. Keep doing what you are already doing and they will both grow in to strong healthy adults.

    Hi ,

I know my DD2 used to be completely off the top of the scale for weight but her height came in on the 99.6th for height so although she was very heavy her height made up for it . Even though her weight has now panned out she is still on the 99.6th centile for both ! My health visitor said so long as she was plotting within 2 blocks of each other (weight/height) then not to worry and this is what crazychik's boy is doing . My friend has a girl and boy and the girl is the image of her dad , tall and lanky and the boy is the image of my mate , short and stumpy ! :rotfl:
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

my son is 7, he is over 4 feet and weighs 3.5 stone, he is a skinny little thing, eats like a horse though, just like his dad

my daughter on the otherhand is 9, over 5 feet and is about 5 stone, she's a great heavy lump, just like me, she also eats like a horse

you get skinny kids, you get tall kids, you get fat kids, you get short kids,

are you kids a happy and healthy????? becuase there is no right or wrong, as long as they are happy and healthy is all that counts

When I was a kid my mum was also worried that I was too skinny and underweight. No matter what I ate, I never put on weight.

Lets just say now that I still wish that were true! :)

My advice is not to worry. If he's eating normally and is happy then don't fret. I'd be more worried about them being overweight in this day and age.

As long as they are healthy I wouldn't worry about your DS. When I was that age, I too was very thin despite eating pretty much non-stop. It all changed when I was about 18 or 19, I guess body metabolism changed or something, as I started to grow in the wrong direction.

I was exactly the same when i was a teen - my mam had me back and forth to the Doctors and his only advice was to eat little and lots (as well as main meals) I took his advice and nothing changed. My mam was exactly the same when she was a teen too so i do think it is a genetic thing.
Some people have faster metabolisms than others, i wouldn't worry about it. :)

Our DS2 (13) has been monitored by the Growth & Development department at Alder Hey for several years as he is small for his age (2nd centile on the growth charts.)

To a certain extent eventual size is gentic, however other factors do come into it to.

We have had to persevere to see people who knew what they were talking about - the 1st paediatrician said when he saw him at 2 that he wouldn't go to a normal school (is a member of NAGTY, writes books and perfoms in many productions!), so we went private as we knew it was a physical issue, not mental, however this was a waste of time as the consultant didn't even note down any measurements.

We then went back to our GP who referred us to the Growth Dept at Alder Hey and they have been marvellous and understood all our our concerns.

We were told that we had done the right things to raise our concerns at an early age, as too often, people take their children as teenagers (after puberty) and say they think there may be growth issues - however once children reach puberty, there is very little that can be done.

So if anybody do have concerns - please get them checked early.

My 7yr old DD is also on the 2nd centile.... but she's not being monitored, it hasn't really concerned us, we've just gotten used to the fact that she's tiny..... I'm now worrying that we should do something about it!

My eldest son was born slightly premature and weighed 5lb 11oz, but he was very long. He looked like a bag of bones with no body fat on him!

He's 10 now and he still looks like that. He's one of the tallest in the class, but when he's naked, you can see all his rib bones and hip bones sticking out. However, he eats adult sized portions of food, is full of beans and is very rarely ill.

I've had countless arguments with health visitors, school nurses etc., as he always wobbled in and out the bottom centiles on the weight charts, and they assumed he wasn't eating properly. He's always had a good balanced diet and eats plenty fresh food.

As long as the child is healthy and you are happy that there is nothing wrong, take the guidelines with a pinch of salt.

I've just had a baby and I've had "guidelines" rammed down my throat for the last 11 days. Sometimes I think the people who write these guidelines forget these are little people with their own characteristics, and forget that mothers instincts and common sense have allowed the human race to continue for all these years without such "guidelines".
Here I go again on my own....
