Broadband Connection Drops in the Evening....!!!

Hi,
My Broadband connection seems to drop at around 9pm in an evening, its not every evening; it can go a few weeks and its fine but then its will start to do it for a few days on the run or every few days then be fine again.
If I unplug the router for a few seconds it fixes it and connects again at my normal speed....
Anyone any ideas why it should happen, why unplugging it seems to fix it (until the next day at least).....I'm using a NetGear Wireless Router. It's always done it at odd times (once every few months) but lately has gone a lot more often.
Would new filters or even a new router (this one is a few years old) fix it. My provider tells me first to reboot the router (which fixes it) so never seem to get any further with them.
Any ideas?

It's probably local noise pickup. Have a read - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm Could improve your speeds too.0

You don't say how you are connecting-wireless or ethernet?
If the former, retest using ethernet to rule out a wireless issue.
Then restest using ethernet from the BT test socket behind the master socket split faceplate. No free lunch, and no free laptop

When you lose connection ....what happens to the internet light on the router (eg does it stay green, flash amber, disappear completely or go solid amber) ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Thanks for the replys.....
I'm using an iPad so can't check with an Ethernet, I check it with my iPhone to rule out an iPad issue & my iPhone won't connect with Wi-Fi either.
As for the lights, normally there are 4 green light, when it drops the connection most of the time all 4 are still showing, but sometimes its only 2.
The speed when it works is ok (around 6Mb to 7Mb) my exchange has a max speed of 8Mb and should get a speed of 7Mb (according to various web sites), so its about right. It's just the dropping that's the problem.0 -
Try changing the wireless channel. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Try changing the wireless channel.
I thought about that when I was looking at the router setting, but to be honest I wasn't sure what this did and if its just a cast of changing it from channel 11 to the next one up or down, or do you select a number several digits away and then do you have to do anything else on any of my devices / computers etc?0 -
Download inSSIDer do a scan and select a free channel for your router.
Drop outs in the can be caused by radio interference, its the same as if you try and listen to medium wave radio after dark.
It can be reduced by always plugging the router into your master socket, and/or removing any bell wiring to extensions (pin 3)That gum you like is coming back in style.0
