The redundancy diary

OK so I started a new diary the day the SHTF and I got made redundant in Feb but just couldn't go back to it. A month or so has gone by and I've got over the emotional side of things and now really need to document what I'm doing to keep going ... and keep smiling
So, moneywise - things are not too bad at the moment if we are careful. I can still pay all the bills and keep putting a little extra at the debt. But I need to do a serious mind shift on my spending.
The loss of the job wasn't as bad as it could be, I didn't really like it and the fact that I sleep all night now, even Sundays  just goes to show that it wasn't perhaps the best of jobs for me. We will have our other job to keep some income in but that can provide other stresses so I know I do need to find something part time to give me a little other life.
Initially I just needed to rest for a week or so to get my head together but then I seemed to give up and couldn't be bothered with anything. So after a good Easter break I am pulling myself back to normal.
Started today by sending all the boys out, and giving the downstairs a good ole spring clean. Looks lovely down here now and tidy and peaceful. Even managed to re-pot a couple of house plants and had a no-spends day.
Tomorrow I intend to:
Have a good Sunday Evening all.

Tomorrow I intend to:
- Get the rest of the washing in and put away
- Go through the cupboard behind my bed - massive task/dumping ground. So first start will be putting the filing away.
- Have another no spends day.
- Take a repeat prescription note down to the Drs.
- Get the boys sorted for school on Tues.
Have a good Sunday Evening all.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x

Sounds like some positive changes by the redundancy.
Are you actively job hunting now?

Gem, I've finally done a decent CV and will start looking properly Tuesday when the boys go back to school. Have found a couple of jobs in the area that I'm more than suitable for so hopefully. I know its going to be a slog though. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

I just went through the job hunt process and it got a little disheartening at times. Just wanted to say keep positive and keep little jobs around the house to do. It is good to still have that sense of satisfaction.
Looking forward to seeing your progress towards a happier life and your debt free journey xxDebt August 2009 - £30,525.50Debt Paid February 2011

Woke up really late today - I need the school run alarm tomorrow to get me more motivated.
I did take the prescription down but had to get veg and sarnie meat for the pack lunches, so not a no-spend day (no treats though).
Yesterday's washing is in, two new loads out, kitchen wiped down and hob scrubbed.
I also managed an hour of filing which means I can now reach the next box shoved in front of my drawers in the cupboard from hell. Wouldn't mind as its all behind closed doors, but at the moment I have to take boxes out just to get to my underwear drawer. It would be less effort just to sort it.
Job wise I have found one to apply for tomorrow and a maybe, so at least its something.
Tonight I aim to get the kids all sorted for school and in bed at a decent hour (not an easy task with a pre-teen and older teen). Have cleared out the youngest's room and found all his school stuff that he had hidden away so we shouldn't have any excuses in the morning.
Luckily DH does all the cooking so I can chill out now with a coffee for an hour or so (goulash (sp?) tonight I think)
My plan for tomorrow:- Apply for the job I like, think about the maybe
- Another hour in the cupboard from hell
- Sort out the recycling tower in the back hallway
- Decorate a card box for putting all the photo's/memory bits found in the cupboard
- Do another job search
Hi Hiddenidentity and DancerSupreme
Hope Monday has been ok for everyone

Very productive! Well done you.
On the job front do you need to get a job ASAP or do you have time to find one you will enjoy?

Morning,
I don't need to rush into anything but I would be more comfortable getting something in the next couple of months.
It was nice this morning to get up to do the school run today (never thought I would be saying that!)
I randomly applied for a job before Easter for a bit of practice and have ended up with an interview on Friday  Might treat myself to a new shirt/blouse to help soothe the nerves.
ETA: actually that makes me sound really flippant about it all, I'm not really - I could do with any extra money we can bring in and I hate just having one source of income. Its just I've worked for 25 years without a break. Its the first time in years that the house is becoming up-together and into a routine.
I was told about the redundancy and out of the office basically within the week back in February, and I was so determined I would take as long off as I wanted. But in all honesty I'm not a stay at home person. A few weeks in casual clothes was nice but today I've noticed I've picked much smarter clothes to wear and have bothered to do my hair properly etc. I need something not quite full time hours to keep me sane as well as stop any money panics. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Not such a productive day. I did get the applications forms for the job I quite like and spent all afternoon doing a rough copy (as it has to be completed by hand ).
I will get some better paper and a nice writing pen to do it properly tomorrow. Thankfully I have neat handwriting.
So tomorrow...- Paper & pen & finish application
- Try and fit in an hour at the cupboard from hell
- Try on the blouses I ordered to see if one goes ok with my suit for Fridays outing
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
I keep forgetting to add my money updates and that's what this is supposed to be here for!
£2 knocked off the debt today, £2 yesterday and £5 Sunday.
Have managed to do a major shuffle around this week and have everything back under 0% again (for now).
Onwards and upwards
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0
