If he is a "looked after child" (sorry - hate that term - sort of implies others aren't looked after!) then there must be a social worker of some kind.
They should have information about local projects and things that are going on. Also, he can still be referred into the Common Assessment
Framework system ( actually, rules vary in different authorities, but most still allow it) where a lot of people with local knowledge can suggest ideas. I would also ask the school.
It varies so much with the individual - I have known kids like this get completely absorbed, and "saved" by hobbies varying from helping disabled kids, drama, sport & army cadets. Others seem to need more individual work around their problems before they can take anything like this on.
I take my hat off to your DD - and she needs to discuss this with the social worker and insist on support.

My 14 year old is a lazy sod but he gets his backside out of bed on time when DH takes him shooting. Archery could be a winner too. Cadets? Don't live in your area just thinking. Karate or boxing?
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

    Boxing could be good.

They stay healthy, are seen as cool by lads that age. And it will channel any pent up aggression he has.

Good luck to him and your DD.

    Hi
Yes he is a looked after child, social worker is about as much use as a fa*t in a thunderstorm & has no ideas what so ever, having said that she, like most SW's has a huge caseload. The school are only intersted in getting moved on.
I'll suggest the Princes Trust, child does like Go Ape etc, but we feel he could do with something regular. He is small & slim & not aggressive at all.

    Hi all
I'm looking for some suggestions, I need something to provide a 15 year old boy with an adrenalin rush.
It has been recommended that he needs something 'exciting' to do, to distract him from his current hobbies of drinking & cannabis.
It needs to be in the Reading/Newbury area, money isn't a problem, but I just can't think of anything.
    TIA Hester

HH...has he been asked what he would like to do? Drinking and cannabis aren't really adrenalin rushes, more of a relaxing thing.....probably to blot out the crap he's had in his upbringing.

Depending on what he's been through, how do you think he would feel about trying to make his life more positive and help other kids that are going through similar things he has been through? How is he with other kids, siblings etc? Are there any proactive groups for his age that could guide him in a different life direction? What are his goals for the future?

Sometimes, kids react better in these situations when they feel they are benefitting/helping someone else and not focusing on themselves.

Does he feel that he's going down the wrong path....does he want to end up like his dad?

    PP
    xx

He's a thrill seeker, he does the booze etc cos he's not meant to, he hero worships Dad as Dad is hard & has been to prison!
