DLA Renewal

Hi Everyone

New to this site, wonder if any help available regarding my DLA which runs out in August 2007. (Middle Care Component) which was awarded for three years in a successful appeal in 2004.Sent in new application forms eight weeks ago to Blackpool, but have heard nothing, I am afraid that if I don't hear anything until the last moment I may lose out in appealing.

My condition remains the same as 3 years ago.

I don't like to phone or write to the DWP as it may appear that I am begging.

How long does it take to get informed if I am to keep or lose this entitlement, should I wait until August to find out ?

Thanks for any advice.

contact them because they will expect that anyway, generally you still have plenty of time to pursue your claim,no don't wait till august and don't forget you can make fresh claim as many times as you want.

Definately ring them asap. When I applied for DLA I heard nothing, after 8 weeks I rang them and they said I had been refused two weeks ago, so I had only got two weeks left to appeal! I have never received the award letter, and am in the middle of preparing to appeal, so ring them now! Your'e not begging, it's money your'e entitled to if you are disabled. Good luck

It can take about 12 weeks to process a claim, but you can phone to find out what stage the renewal claim is at.

When I was waiting for a decision I telephoned after 8 weeks (this was for re application back in August) and was told that they were 3 months behind. I telephoned again after 12 weeks to see what the situation was with my claim and was told that they had sent for a report from my GP and a decision would be made then - I didn't wait very long after that.

My view is that it's not a good move submitting a renewal as quickly as you did (not everyone will agree). One reason being they can assess your claim on receipt of your claim pack resulting in the imediate withdrawal of your current award - it does not have to run until Aug 07.
My advice would be do nothing, let your claim progress without further contact from yourself...no point in bringing the situation to their attention before it needs to.
You won't be time barred providing you lodge an appeal within the specified timeframe.

From what I understand from this thread is that orangecat has only submitted the renewal forms sent by the DLA as requested - they do this about 6 months before the existing claim ends. I was sent them last July 2006 although my claim did not end until January 2007 and they ask you to fill them in within a few weeks - I only got the decision for mine in December. If this is the case then orangecat has not submitted renewal too soon!

Once the DWP is in receipt of the renewal pack they are then given an oppertunity to review and amend/end the claim, so in that respect orangecat has indeed submitted the renewal too soon - i'll reiterate, in my opinion.
Orangecat has done nothing wrong, personally i would have returned the form and submissions the week the claim expired.

ohreally, I understand what you are saying but when I had my renewal forms from the DLA there was a restricted time in which you could send them back which was about 4 weeks (if you don't return within this time you lose your reapplication)- I received them in July and had to be returned within 4 weeks and the week my claim expired was January 2007! They ask for the renewal forms about 6 months before end of existing claim.

Indeed, and if the don't receive them you will likely receive reminders (cynically wonder why!).
Providing your claim forms reach the DWP before current claim ends there will be no issues in continuing the claim. There may be a short period where the existing claim payments stop and the renewal being introduced, if this does happen arrears payments will apply.

We obviously have differing perspectives on how this should be progressed so we'll agree to disagree on this occasion :)
