Help...tumble dryer broke down...argos

Hi, hopefully someone can help. We purchsed a tumble dryer 5 months ago and it has developed an electrical fault...it keeps triping the electric in the house. I called Argos to see if we can return it and get an exchange. All they have offered is a telepohne number for Indesit, and told it is down to them to repair.

We work all week with no time of at the moment so it is unacceptable for us, to sit in and wait for a repair man to turn up. But they will take no responsibilty all all in helping and just keep offering the telepohne number.

we are at loss now what to do, we explained that our contract is with them and not Indesit, but they are not interested.

Does anyone know how to deal with this...please.

Sorry put this in another thread also...but noticed this one and thought it may be a better place to put it!

Did you buy online or in store. If in store I'd just take it back and see what they say there.

Online, I'd write stating that there is a fault and as per the sale of goods act they are responsible for providing a remedy. Your choice would be a replacement, although you appreciate that if this is disproportionately costly they may offer a repair.

Unfortunately they are likely to simply pass it over to Indesit themselves, so you may be no better off...

As above, if you force Argos to act, they will ring Indesit on your behalf, arrange a date for the engineer to come to your address, and you will have to wait in on a day of their choosing.

It'd be much simpler for you to arrange a date with Indesit at your convenience.

Unfortunately, although your rights are with Argos, it is usually much simpler to go direct to the manufacturer.

The reason they've passing you over to indesit is probably because that's the fastest route to a resolution (IIRC almost all Argos large white goods including tumble dryers are delivered*), and Argos have the right to decide on what remedy to use (repair, replacement, refund).
Given that Argos themselves do not (as far as I know) employ any repairmen, they'd probably just refer it to Indesit themselves, adding an extra delay if you insist on Argos dealing with it themselves.

Whatever happens you're likely to need to be at home for at least one day (especially if you had the dryer delivered), as it'll need to either be picked up for repair, or someone to come out.
Fortunately tumble dryers tend to be very simple devices, which means they are usually pretty easy to troubleshoot/fault find, as there are only a handful of electrical connections.

*Do Argos even stock any tumble dryers in store these days? (I seem to remember last time we needed one in a hurry we had to buy from a small indie or the co-op who had some on site, Argos was something like "14 days").
