Many thanks for all the replies - interestingly the one that is currently being recommended on pistonheads is exactly the one that hewhoisnotintheknow has just advised about avoiding!
Will review these links and perhaps up my budget a little

There are a LOT of fakes on eBay - even listings which claim to be "UK based" or "UK stock" turn out to be based in China if you look at their profile location.
The only one I've seen that's sent from the UK and sold by a genuine UK seller is a brand called Smartcam, which has been reviewed by the YouTube user in my previou post.0 -

To be fair I think his issue might be more with the vendor. It could well be they have a fake and/or a lemon but the vendor doesn't want to know (which is strange if it was a genuine item).
In essence, the camera might be good, but that vendor in particular isn't!What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

The one I got was similar to this one:

I got it on Buy It Now for £23, free P&P, and at that price if it fails in a year I won't mind. Obviously picture quality isn't that great (muddy colours, doesn't cope well with bright oncoming lights) but it's not embarrassingly bad, and if all you want is a record, it's absolutely fine.
Seller is in the UK (Cardiff), the item was delivered in a couple of days, and I have had no problems with it, apart from the aforementioned poor instructions. I'm quite happy with it for the price. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I've got this Prestigio one after a non-fault accident that the evil woman started to lie about despite admitting liability 4 years ago!!!
Been VERY useful especially after a complete nutter pulled out into me just before Christmas!:mad: It even records sound........................which I had no idea about until I played back the accident and heard my extremely blue tirade as the $%^*&£$ numpty drove into me!!!!!:o:o:o:oHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I have one of these I bought from ebay for about £50.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prestigio-Road-Runner-Digital-Recorder/dp/B006257O7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365453797&sr=8-1&keywords=prestigio+roadrunner
It's great although only points in one direction.
Snap Savvy - great camera and no complaints from me!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Maybe you should search before posting. Phone apps for recording calls have been mentioned many many many many times.
But why pay for something when there are better free ones? even is its only 69p.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
