bidder doesn't have money to pay....yet

Hi all

Some advice would be brilliant please:D

I sold an item on ebay (few hundred pounds) and immediately after the auction the winning bidder changed their mind. Ok...fed up, p....d off but hey ho get on with life...mutual agreement to cancel...and then relist.

Relisted item sold for considerably less than other identical items usually do and a lot less than original auction but again hey ho you win some you lose some. Someone got very lucky. Sent the invoice, two days later sent a reminder, fourth day asked if they still wanted item. Message pinged back yes they do but they haven't got the money at the moment and will have it next week:eek: I've messaged back I am not happy to wait.

If I file non paying bidder can I relist? To be honest I don't want to sell to this person now because whilst I was okay with someone to win it for a bargain price if they paid fairly quickly I am not prepared to be mucked about. What happens if he/she pays after npd filed....do I have to sell it to them or can I just refund the payment (not that I think payment will come through anytime soon, just like to be prepared).

What are my options?

Thanks for any advice.

So frustrating....how can people think it's okay to bid on items when they don't have money?

A neighbour just advised me to file non paying bidder report straight away. He says they have four days to pay me and if they do then I have to sell to them and if they don't then ebay will close the case and credit my final value fees.

If you haven't set it to close automatically then you will need to login after 4 days to close it. Then you can relist :)

In fairness, I sold a handbag for a couple of hundred on eBay and the winner asked if I could wait until the next week for her pay day. I was suspicious and so posted on this very board (!) and was told to just give her a break as others had the same thing happen and it was fine.

On their advice I waited and she did pay and left me glowing feedback to boot. I'm not saying that everyone who pays late is legit, just that they're not all dodgy either ;)

I think you shouldn't bid if you can't pay and I would be annoyed if a winning bidder said they had no money...wrong.

This is why I put most of my bigger selling items on towards the end of the month to coincide with payday for bidders

If they had got it cheap - i would file an NPB after 4 days - close it on 8.

Then you can try get the price its worth.

There is a difference if they contact you but my buyer just sent me a msg today after sending her 2 emails that she would pay me next week. The item is worth £22 including postage so not a huge amount.

I probably wouldn't have minded if they had asked BEFORE bidding but to bid, not contact me, not reply to messages etc until the last moment is somewhat annoying to say the least.

Edit: I might also not mind so much if the item was for not a significant amount....but this item is a few hundred pounds.
