N|ewe boiler needed this year, possible double post

As above, need recommendations for a new boiler, 100,000/120,000 btu into the water and I guess around 80,000 into the heating.

Thats what my 17 year old gloworm swiftflow E produces.

Can i do better, the boiler is faultless, just have to run a larger gas supply and with a new boiler I'm set for retirement.....

So, given my unit is in good working order, how efficient is it? would I get a return from something newer over the next 10 years

I have a Gloworm as I get a staff discount from a family member, can go outside this if it's a better option

In view of the fact that I seem to have been boycotted by every pro plumber on this forum due to my anti pro trade responses, where there have been suggestions that affect members pockets, I have gone my own way with this.

Gloworm Ultracom 2 30cxi fits the bill.

200,000 btu(minimum from your requirement figures) total requirement equals 58.6 Kw Gloworm Ultracom 2 30cxi umm I think thats 30Kw output isnt it:p

well it would be a prob if CY boiler wasn't a combi, so therefore you don't really need to add them figures together do you

24cxi gives 25.5Kw @ 10.4 l/min

LoL. Well the angle grinder one wasn't particularly bright really. It wouldn't be the first time that a second pipe had been found buried behind the first then thats, whoops, two pipes needing fixing. Greater expense rather than lesser.

Anyway this is thread creep and off topic. Is it Ted or SC next? :D

Gents, I am working from memory but just checked and it is a swiftflow 100e, it was the 1st electronic boiler in it's range at that time and yes it is a combi.

The output is 100000 btu but this is the memory bit, I'm thought that it gave 100 into the water and 80 into the heating??, but not at the same time of course

Given that it heats the home fine I just looked at the similar output equivalent from them.

I don't expect there would be a massive increase in efficiency, the old 1 was, again from memory, about 80%


Yes I would normally save leave well alone if there is no real fault, but I do have the contact there at present but maybe not for much longer and there is usually a very good discount to be had.
I don't have alternatives to compare with as all 3 or 4 family members or friends that have changes or installed boilers after alterations etc, have all gone with GW for the saving.

And I also recently discovered that the gas feed across the house is undersized so that needs addressing anyway.

If there are horror stories to be told re Gloworm I'd like to hear about them, I want cheap not cheap rubbish

Oh, and I apologise to all, me and Mr Ted got off to a poor start a few weeks ago and I think it should be put to 1 side.

My views are my views, and if you want to pigeon hole me, then I'm probably a Jack of all trades and probably a master of non;)

If I said that with the exception of hiring a 2 man building team to quickly build an extension after a disastrously timed house move, you are talking to a bloke that has never had to pay anyone to do anything for him in his life. That will change no doubt with age, but the savings I have made over the years meant I could hang up the tools, (or put away the spreadsheets and factory management responsibilities etc as it had become then) at the reasonable age of 55. Getting gradually promoted out of what you enjoy doing and into areas that you have no real interest is no fun.

So trying to help others is now an added interest, which is why I sometimes find myself at loggerheads with people directly from the trade, let's each have our view, our say, and leave it at that, there's only 1 person decides which is best for them.

Hit me over the head if I ever post unsafe info ( yes I was also the companies H&S advisor :(),

Put this here as it is my topic so not rambling on in anyone elses time:D
