Landlord didn't empty house

  • Plumber came and put some sealant around the shower, haven't had a leak since however we can't confirm it's resolved until tomorrow afternoon as we need to wait 24 hours before shower can be used.

A few hours ago the letting agent posted the final inventory through the door, 35 pages... just been through (took about 45 minutes) and marked which items we have packed away into the loft for the owner to collect as discussed, this is in case at check out they're wondering where everything went!

Hopefully we are now on the home stretch, just need to confirm the shower leak is fixed and wait for the owner to collect all of his stuff... which he will most likely delay and put off and never do and we'll be stuck with cupboards full for the tenancy, hah.

Personally I think you are being far too lenient on the landlord. I would have hired a skip and charged him by the hour for the time I spent cleaning the house.

Sure the house is nice, but what excuse is that? Presumably you are paying an absolute fortune in rent.
  • Not being funny, but is it a reputable letting agent?
I saw a flat once that looked 'lived in' and it turned out it was being let by a 'friend' of the owner (without their knowledge as he was in prison!)
  • What a lovely home! I would have been really annoyed if somewhere I moved in to was left in anything other than clean, tidy and free from personal touches, though.
  • Something not quite right with all this
Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool

  • I just jinxed it by posting we're on the home stretch...

I saw blue lights in my peripheral vision (my office room looks over the front of the house) so I walked back through to the main house, turns out my mother fell down the stairs and there was blood everywhere (sister called the ambulance). I said when we moved in that the stairs were awful and an accident waiting to happen.

So far this house has given us a lot of junk and taken teeth (we can't find it anywhere...). I'm not sure if antique chairs are a fair trade for teeth, what's the tooth fairies going rate these days?

    This house is cursed. ha.

Seriously? our LL left the garage we rent with the house full of his rubbish and we have negotiated a rent reduction (after 6 months and the threat of legal action) based on he fact we aren't getting what we pay for (contract for house and garage), I would go mental if the house was full of his stuff as well, certainly wouldn't be paying rent for his storage facility!
  • Another update on the house unrelated to the original issue:

I walked into the utility room earlier and saw water, then I heard squelching, then I noticed that the floor felt... as if it had rotted away. After much consideration (was it the rain? plumbing issue?) turns out that whoever set up this washing machine is... an idiot?

The drainage pipe for the washing machine leads over the top of the washing machine, over the boiler into a pipe that takes the water to the drain (through the wall). The drainage pipe was not secured in place, when the washing machine span it wiggled the pipe and eventually it came loose...

The dark blue pipe at the top is the exit pipe from the washing machine, the white pipe is where the water needs to go. This is where the water has ended up:

On the upside I now have a new party trick, I call it the reverse jesus, I walk on the floor and it turns into water.
