Anyone with Good Energy?

I am about to move and researching for new gas supplier. Electricity supplier in my new flat is Good Energy but actually don't know what to expect from them. I am very unhappy with Scottish Power and wonder if Good Energy prices are similar. Anyone could give me a hand with it? Thanks for reading!

Electricity prices differ depending on what area of the country you live in. Have you tried putting your details into a price comparision website (such as uswitch)? This is the best way to compare gas and electricity prices. Best to look closely at the tariff options suggested though, to check for hidden catches such as discounts only applied annually or a long time afterwards.

Choose the standard tariffs for your existing providers and estimate the likely useage if you're not sure.

Why are you unhappy with scottish power? Some problems with suppliers are common to a lot of providers (such as not estimating direct debits properly, not taking meter readings often enough) and I wouldn't personally avoid an electricity/gas supplier just on factors such as this. I've used Scottish Power before and I would recommend them.

I've never used good energy at all so I can't comment on them!
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Hi zara278,

    Welcome to the Forum.

I don't have any experience of Good Energy but they have done well in the most recent Which? survey (see below).

    See the
    Cheap Gas & Electricity Guide.
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity

There is also a Guide for Prepaid Cheap Prepaid Gas & Elec
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/switch-prepaid-gas-electricity
    here at MSE.

In these Guides there are links to Switching Sites and lots of good advice.

In my experience, Customer Service is important when you need it.

I'm with npower, who unfortunately, have many issues with their 'new system' as documented in the long thread:

Warning: npower accept new customers without sending them a Contract
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4273611

See the survey at Which? - conducted in October and November 2012.
    Energy companies rated
    http://www.which.co.uk/switch/energy-suppliers/energy-companies-rated
npower are 15th (the worst) rated Supplier!
I guess, in light of the ongoing issues that it will take npower a long time to improve their rating.

Good Energy are extortionate because it's all renewables, they are good if the environment is more important than saving money.

Pre-contract_oblig posts the same claims about NPower on every thread, I have reported them for waging a vendetta.

    - no where close to the price competitiveness of the big 6, and they are expensive
    - good energy is therefore more expensive than the average expensive
    - if you are a 'tree hugger' and don't mind paying through the nose for pseudo green energy stay with them
